I worked with Philander a few years ago and he was an amazing person. He had a huge heart and really cared about those kids. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. What a tragedy.

OR he went up to the kid after he got the kid as angry as he could possibly get, put his arm around him, and when the kid told him to get his arm off of him, he told the client to make him. So, it may have turned out that HE started the alterction, noty this client who is being wrongly blames for something that he didnt do!@

i knew the man. totally believable. i wasn't especially fond of him due to his tendancy to be a little overly agressive and testosterone ridden but i'm a little sad to hear that he died. when he wasn't trying to instill fear in children thru intimidation and aggression, he was really a pretty good guy. really liked his wife and kids.

That's a nice way of saying that he was a bully and a Prick.

How is it disrespectful to realize that Trinity is trying to cover up what isn't just an Accident.
He was pushed . He was pushed hard and fell .
His death wouldn't have happened if wasn't pushed.
He was a nice man and you just want to cover it up .
What is going to happen to the kid , will he be getting a medal for this or will they be sent to a better supervised facility?
I seroiusly doubt youve ever seen philander....he might have been pushed but that man weighed 300-500 lbs easily. It was a simple act of god.

Yea, I was there... Unfortunately... I, got upset when I red what Cover Up was saying... No, he was a good man, one of the best I knew, even though I didnt know him well... I was still angry about it all, and I still blamed him... He was just a kind old man trying to help me, and I let my anger rule... I pushed him... The only thing he was at fault for was trying to help a complete failure like me...

If I may. Know Mr. Philander as a person? No. None of us did. We were residents. As is obviously known, Trinity was a place for troubled youth. How could we get to know someone as a person when, at the time, we saw him as a Warden. He was high up, he didn't stay in the houses with us. We never really got to see him in a carefree manner. If he was there, either something big was happening or we were in serious trouble. I notice it seems most people on here talking badly about him have usernames like "Ranch Kid". The people saying he was a bully, how would a person who only knew him as the reason we weren't able to go home. Most kids didn't realize we put ourselves there. His job was to enable us to be good law abiding citizens, but we were all too hard headed to listen. Did I witness it? I'm "Grrrrr" and "A Complete Idiot". To my knowledge, only Philander and I were there. So I alone know what happened, and even then, I'm not sure. I resisted when he tried to calm me down, then when he alone tried to restrain me, I resisted. He was in the right. We lost balance and fell, he landed on top of me. To this day, I remember the feeling and sound as he lost his breath. I crawled out from under him, and he laid still. I was then carried away. I don't know what happened after that. I'm not sure what exactly caused him to hurt his neck. For the rest of my life, I'll carry this with a heavy heart. I want to cry as I type this. I've talked to other kids who were there with me who kept saying things from it wasn't my fault, he started it, to even seeming proud I had done it. This was a man of God, a good man. Maybe we never got to see it, because he always had to be the strict one. If you ask most of the kids who he worked with, of course they'd see him unfavorably. Would a criminal look unfavorably towards a cop? Of course. Would a criminal talk badly about a cop? Of course. Would that make the cop a bad man, for doing his job? No. Now this post has gone from asking what happened to destroying and doubting this man of God's reputation. I hate to bring this up three years after his passing, but as the kid who was in question over this, I'll say the final word. There was no cover up. By saying it wasn't my fault, even though I caused the accident, he saved me from YEARS in jail or prison. If he was a bad man, why would he himself save me? I believe God saved me through him, though I am not a practicing Christian. I only bring all of this up because, after three years, his name and reputation needed to be defended, especially since a couple of my posts helped to mar it. I apologize.

It was an accident and I hope you can find a way to let it go.
