When you're able to get out, you should try the Low Gap Cafe. I can't believe some ole grouch from Pocahontas moved here too. At least we don't have to deal with the local governmemt there anymore.

My IP address isn't where I reside. I live west of Pocahontas about a 100 miles.

I Read this post.....Now Im thinking , I just hope the chicken industry, plants will be very very careful, please people make sure they regulate the waste better, we have a lot of farm land using this fertilizer but gosh, I really didnt think about all that run off into our clean rivers, we have 5 rivers in the county, Suspect eleven point and spring are already in danger zone with waste run off not being regulated, I know for sure the Flood Plain Administrator is lacking in enforcement. Our county is is sad shape. But lets not give up yet, we all have children and grandchildren who need to enjoy these scenic rivers and lands, Working class out here cant afford to dig a big ole hole and have a fancy swimming pool like Joe and family and if we could the flood plain administrator most likely tell us no and we need a high dollar engineer to ok that swimming pool in a flood zone . Just thinking out loud

Yes, we all have hopes for our community. It may not be possible to predict the future of Pocahontas....but we can look at the current situation and ask questions.
The big question is, are there 1000 people in the area that are looking for jobs? My cynical answer would be no, there are more likely 1000 people looking for some sort of entitlement check. Its very likely that the need for workers will draw new people. But hey, I moved here decades ago, why shouldn't I welcome some newcomers?

The Chicken killing plant isn't going to be biult unless Peco gets a big pay off in both no taxes and a subsidy from government to induce them to come here and pollute whats left of our river system with nitrogen , phosphorus and mercury.
Ah the smell of fresh chicken litter will soon fill the air through out Randolph county.
There is Nothing like the stench from the litter of a 100,000 chickens

I gave up on the inbred elected officials and all the nepotism in Randolph county. The only thing they can do is raise taxes. or apply for a government grand. Fiscal responsibility isn't a option.

They won't let any blood leave in the sewer unless its an accident. They save all the extra parts and will be hauled to another processing plant. They'll bake it and turn it into a meal to be used in pet food.

If a company comes to our town and employs a large number of people and in turn land and home values go up, that is a good thing! It's called growth. Nobody wants to buy a home for say 150,000 and five years later the property is appraised at 140,000 because companies have closed and more people are moving away from the area than moving into it due to lack of jobs. Anyone who thinks good paying companies moving to Pocahontas are a bad thing because rental rates will go up, are fucking idiots!

I would like to see Pocahontas have more industry, in my mind there isn't anything bad about a chicken processing plant if it is well built and managed with proper pollution controls.properties can and do depreciate in value.
Pocahontas has done a great job in driving away companies that pay decent wages,so maybe getting a chicken plant with all the negatives like an influx of hispanic workers won't be the worst thing. Be Prepared for a large number of children attending our schools who may not even be able to speak English and people living 3 familes in rented homes
