Some of us already have a choice of which town or county we shop at. Thayer Mo. is the same distance from my home as Pocahontas.
I already buy the majority of the families groceries there,Some things I will continue to buy in Pocahontas until it is cheaper to buy them elsewhere because of the taxes.

we're all going to take turns pissin in the pools as often as possible and then work on replacing this council that doesn't listen to us and dreams up more wants and taxes rather than addressing needs.

you think taking from the poor and non users for the leisure of the minority is morally right? just asking?

you all movin to paragould when it gets beat? just asking?
heard they have a nice play pool for their 28000 folks. AND even have some good jobs there.

get ready the school will ask for a millage increase to help fund the swim team that jg and some teachers will soon be pushing the school to fund. watch and see.
You are so funny! The county will ask to raise the millage before the school. This is done on a vote of the JP's as like the Hamburger tax the city council are the only one can raise the tax on it. Sounds like you need to go back to school and teachers can teach you how to spell and say "YES" than show you how to vote. Now who is funny. Lol

My prediction 318 YES
147 NO

maybe you need to go back to school The JP's can raise the mills with out a VOTE from the people The city council can raise the mills WITHOUT a Vote from the people BUT a school board has to go before the people and put it to A VOTE FOR A MILLS INCREASE.

WATCH OUT VOTERS THIS IS ALREADY IN "PROGRESS" GOING TO THE SCHOOL BOARD AND ASKING FOR A SWIM TEAM THE SCHOOL WILL HAVE TO LOOK FOR THE MONEY SOMEWHERE TO BUGET THIS AND A MILLS WILL BE ASKED FOR JUST LIKE THIS 1 CENT TAX FOR A POOL.

Now you is so FUNNY?

If it passes them obviously the council did exactly what the majority of voters wanted. Good luck replacing the, based on that.

"the council did exactly what the majority of voters wanted."

the council certainly didn't do that on the ambulance vote.

when this tax gets defeated, the council will look very foolish, again.
and will have wasted a lot of peoples time and money, and the cost of the special election.
hey dumbazz

Even if the voters vote against it and decide not to be the highest taxed town in NE Arkansas (even Little Rock)the city council will screw the city and county residents like they did on the ambulance issue. They do not care what the voters want, they have proven that.
doubtful they will

there will be some hell raised and recall votes if they screw us on a tax issue.

about all they can do without a tax vote is play with another penny on the hamburgler tax.(125k/yr) it's not enough for the proposed big enclosed $4.3 million part of the project.

imo, they should replace the little pool and do the planned outdoor part for the younger kids. and do it a little smaller and cheaper than the 1.5 mil planned.

fix and make the current bigger new pool work for now.

in 7 to 10 yrs when the smaller new project is paid off, or with some grant money, look at replacing the current bigger outdoor pool. keep it outdoor, not enclosed or heated, and at about $1 million or less.

also consider an enclosed adult/rehab pool. try for grants on it also. maybe put it somewhere else if land could be donated if needed.(urban renewal the city shed or the old tourist courts on marr near the current city park area with it or up on the hill somewhere near where the old gym was?)
an inground normal to plus size home pool (20 by 30 footish) heated and enclosed should work. spend maybe 250k max on it.

there are many other options the council could and should consider besides the 7.5 million super project and 1/2 million/yr permanent tax.

vote NO and make em do it.

You present some good ideas. It would be great to have you on a commitee or run for an alderman position. Thank you for alternative, out-of-the-box thinking.

Your one of those tax and spend types.
That works until someone asks you to start spending your own money.

Do you have a prediction on the turnout and results.
Show us how smart you are at reading the voters.

Do you have any solutions besides more socialism and tax and spend?

You are totally clueless as to the cost of things. The majority of the cost of the kids play area is in concrete site prep, pumps, filters, decking, etc. you could cut it in half and it would barely drop the cost at all. Also, per the health department report, there is no fixing the larger pool. It will have to be completely be torn down due to the structural deficiencies. You could keep the lap pool outside which would save you significantly. Putting the therapy pool somewhere else would just make the construction, maintenance and upkeep more expensive plus require more personnel to keep it open. You also can't build the equivalent t of a home pool because when it is a government facility it is subject to many more rules, ADA compliance, has to be earthquake proof, etc.
