I think it will pass but am 100% voting against it. I just love how jg can't answer any questions in his ad to the paper about cost admission etc only what other parks charge vote NO people they have not given enough info to rush into voting for this project they should at least have been able to tell admission price for a one day visit.

Defeated - gets built anyway.
after defeat, council needs to consider other options besides the 4 new pools. don't even consider the enclosed olympic swim pool.

for a million, not 3 or 4, probably could fix the big pool and take out the old small pool and put in a splash/slide pool for the little folks and maybe a small enclosed heated senior whirlpool.

another 1 cent on the burger tax would bring in about 125k/yr to finance it.

compared to the Paragould model.
- is 4 times smaller population wise,
- has much less tax base,
- and will have less users.

I know right! a lot of my family live in and round the Paragould area, they seldom take their kids or grandkids to the water park, we all meet at a family members who has in ground pool, we have to many rivers here & the river is free! I don't understand why the officials of Pocahontas think this will bring more people! Randolph county is dying, there is nothing here, no jobs, just banks and fast food, when I first move here in 1985 there were plenty of jobs, people need to find a way to bring more jobs to this dying county, no one can afford to go to a big water park much less pay more taxes! Bring in jobs, not put the county into more debt! Can not say it enough Randolph county is not and will never be a tourist attraction! Jobs then recreation in that order!

I'll not make a prediction about the outcome of the vote, but I will highlight some facts that you may not be aware of:

1. The AP tax is approx 200k to 250k per year. A large percent of that tax comes from visitors, not residents. A 1% sales tax increase will generate approximately 1.2 million dollars per year. Visitors will not be effected very much by the change, but residents will see a huge tax increase.

2. What is not being talked about is the need for another 1% sales tax increase we need to support our hospital. Also, there is another 1% Arkansas state sales tax increase which takes effect on 1 July.

Vote not only with your heart, but also with your mind. Be careful what you ask for because you may just get it. Semper Fi!

Ben, I have a lot respect for you and I did vote for you for mayor in 2010 and wish that you had win . I wish that you have had made at lease 8 past months of the city council meetings. It seem that you are only getting half of the story from unknown sources you call facts. The AP is a big JOKE that is doing nothing but killing the system! Ben, they have control of the food tax. As a patriot I'm very proud As a supporter of the 1% sale tax across the board on the pools. as for the hospital different story and different page in the book. The answer to your facts? Will not be 1% tax in July because three of the councilmen said, that the hospital will be FOR SALE If they don't get it together. So the problem is AP and the hospital committee want to see the pool tax fail! If you was the mayor at this time and day i know that in your heart you would see that this is a great for Pocahontas. The children and senior citizen would benefit so much! Remember the citizens past a 1% at the beginning to save the hospital and did not Hirt anyone and it did not see a huge tax increase. This pool tax will work for all and it will reduce to 1/2% after when its completed. Please think it over! A friend!!!!

Also, there is another 1% Arkansas state sales tax increase which takes effect on 1 July. "IS FALSE"

I'm proud to stand up and say that I voted for the citizens pools and my head hangs high as a PATRIOT! That's all I'm going to say.

I think it will fail. I sure hope so. I am so afraid the money from the tax will be mismanaged.
Mr. Grider is so supportive of it and he was involved in child support with a few friends and his father and they were mismanaging (Stealing) some of the money.
Look at how Pocahontas I allowing the town to look so ugly. Look at the knee high grass in yards, nasty houses and some of the city streets are in need of repair.
Look at the stupid caboose. The tracks were removed, now bring in a caboose.
Hey, I just bought a new car but it does not have a motor. But I got a new car!

Time tells all! I'll not bicker over where I've been, who I've talked with, nor what my stance is on the issue. Thank you for supporting me in the past mayoral election. My main point to all citizens is "Think with your minds about fiscal responsibility and with your hearts for wants of the city. There are many ways to have a cake and eat it too, without strapping our children with more taxes. I'm surprised the City council did not seek more avenues in which to finance such a big project. I'll not call them lazy, just that they took the easy road... Tax the folks! Millions of dollars could buy much more than swimming for our children and seniors. Thank you for being a true patriot! "Remember the citizens past a 1% at the beginning to save the hospital and did not Hirt anyone and it did not see a huge tax increase. This pool tax will work for all"

absolutely wrong.
the so called 1% hosp tax replaced a 3/4 road/sidewalk and econ. dev. tax.

"This pool tax will work for all"
what a load of bs.
all will pay it, but a vast majority will not use it or benefit from it in any way.

it's just a cadillac and luxury wanted by a small minority of users, off the backs of others. you should hang your proud head LOW if money gets taken from the poor and struggling in this town for others greedy wants.

"Also, there is another 1% Arkansas state sales tax increase which takes effect on 1 July. "IS FALSE"
he was off a little . 1/2 cent road tax is coming.

"Visitors will not be effected very much by the change, but residents will see a huge tax increase. "IS FALSE"
a huge tax increase is NOT FALSE
when you're poor, or broke, 1% more IS a huge tax increase. it adds up. and don't tell us going from $250k burger tax to a $1.2 mil pool tax is not a huge increase. it's 5 times more and will come from somewhere. last i knew, 500% was a huge increase. DUH!
he still is one

grider never repaid the money or went to jail and somehow he is some city official? Just shows how F@#K the town is . He is pushing this pool for a few kids that are on a swim team.
He never pushed any thing that involved a large number of children did he?
Of course not he is only interested in his own kids.
Vote no on this project and fire grider.
