Every once in awhile in life you would really like to get something new especially when you have been putting up with something that you would like to replace for a long time.
I think a lot of us has two sides in our minds and one side will say, I want that and then the other side that is more sensible that says no. Make do with what you have if the problem can be corrected for less money than buying the new stuff.
I still want new stuff but in the long run I'm better off by making decisions that are going to benefit me in the long run.

One day you're going to be dead and then frugality won't do you a damn bit of good. So buy whatever you can afford that makes you happy right now and stop worrying about it.

come on now, she can't be that bad.... and besides, those newer models are packed with electronics... like cell phones and earbuds, bluteeth, etc. Much higher maintenance

Everyone earns about in a lifetime since the doctors and lawyers and others are not earning for years and years while others that begin out of high begin earning right away. One poster above touched on steady saving and investing as a proven method to success. Money management is the key to a good retirement. Obama has a retirement plan that will enrich his buddies while costing you all your money you have invested in his plan.

The whole trick to life is to have what you need and not necessarily what you want or things that you really don't need. If you spend all your money on things you don't really need then you won't have any money when you do need it.
I learned that the hard way but I did learn from my mistakes. I don't owe a penny to anyone and that's a better feeling than having something new to make payments on.

Men to that. I've had the same car for 10 years been totally paid for the second year. Lived in the same house for 18 years its almost ours. Will be in five years. I can't see going into debt for bigger better things when u could save for retirment. We still have old style tvs in our home. One is fixing to quit because the sound keeps going out. We will just replace it with one of our kids old style tvs. I cant see buying a new one since we don't watch much anyway and we have 2 more perfectly fine tvs sitting in the kids bedrooms. I so agree with being satisfied with what you have as long as it functions and does what ou need. No need for first class everything in life. As long as i have my family I will be ok.

That isn't living, it's just existence.

No wonder so many people are just fat, stupid lumps.

You and I are on the same page. I bought my last pickup in 2001 but that was a mistake buying that truck. I had been driving pickups for years and decided to get a cheaper running vehicle and that was before gas was 4 bucks a gallon. I seen this real pretty Dodge Ram pickup and I bought after I had driven it. Big mistake economy wise.
I had a TV went out several years ago so I bought a used one from an old couple that hardly used it anymore and I got no problems with that. The one in my living room is old too but it still works.
About 7 years ago I paid off every credit card I had and cut them up except for one. I had paid for over 5 years on the truck and paid that off too before the credit cards.
Your 100% right on how you handle your money.

I started this thread last month and another about cordless phones.
I put up with the screwed up phone for awhile but when I had enough it was time to fix or replace it so rather than buy a new phone I replaced the battery for 25 bucks, works fine now.
The next thing that was really bugging was my computer speakers. I'm a big time music fan but I don't hear well and cheap speakers will not hold up very long and are a waste of money to me. I ordered a set of Bose speakers from Amazon and those should last me for years.
I have an old set of Bose speakers on my stereo and they are the only speakers I ever had that haven't blown out.
