It's usually not to hard to get on. They have a huge turn around. So they are always looking for ppl. Not everyone is cut out for that line of work. You'll get on faster if you know someone who works for the company your applying for and you have them put in a good word for you. But if you have good references and a good work record you should really have no problem. Boat company's are always hiring.

I agree. Try to find someone you know that has been on awhile to put in a good word for you. Good luck.

Artco is the best paying...I think...then they have.... Canal Barge Company...Missouri Barge Line....Kirby Inland Marine...just to name a few company's. Just kinda need to research them yourself. Some work a month on a month off...others do a month on 15days home.....some require you to find your own transportation back and forth and others provide it for you. Which one is going to be the best for you requires knowing what your looking for.

ARTCO, AEP, and Ingram are probably your best bets on good pay, and generally decent companies to work for. Some companies like Canal and ACL don't pay very good at all, you end up with a 30/15 schedule AND end up with a boat full of "work-release" cons...

I work for Artco and have been working on the river for 21 years. I know Artco is hiring now as is most boat companies. All have a huge turn around. The pay is pretty competitive but look at the benefits to. I would have to say Artco probably has the best benefits because they are owned by ADM and have over 30,000 employees. I'd try them first. Good luck.

If a guy aint salty best stay off those boats. I worked em for 20 years an saw more than one young feller wash out due to stress an work load. Wolf Blansett himself had a hard time adjusting to it. Lot if gambling an bare knuckle brawling at the ports back in the day. Wolfes boat went down above Memphis in 79
