Good News according to the Wednesday Aug.22 Lawrence county Times Dispatch. The four lane HWY 67 from walnut ridge to the Missouri state line is getting closer. It will be built to non interstate specs. Im tickled it wont follow the existing route through Poky. It is going through Delaplane Knobel and east of Corning. Eventually HWY 304 Might be improved for trucks ect. Its another nail in the coffin for Poky. No more generating revenue operating a speed trap and ticketing out of area travelers. The dying poky town will wither and continue to decline Ill be happy when its gone. Good riddance. Im glad I dont reside in Randolph County any more.

Your correct I harbor resentment & a bad negative amosity toward the local pocahontas county & city goverment. It dont consume me and Im not obssed with my disgust to where its a hatered. I grew up here and know first hand about the nepotism and inside deals. I still own property in randolph county and must pay taxes to the parasitic county officials who wont practice fiscal responsibility. However My personal feelings dont change the fact that Poky is dying and the fourlane 67 will bypass Poky. Ole Wayne Gearhart has caused a rift between Poky and Nut Hill by trying to steal the airplane dismantle factory from college city to relocate at poky. Now the intermodal authority is pushing for a four lane hwy 67. Corning and Nut hill are in agreement with the State Hwy dept that it would be more expiedent to bypass Poky. And that decision makes me happy. I like to see it when karma gives the GOB,s their just rewards. And a caboose & new swimming pool isnt going to generate one dime of revenue.

SORRY TO TELL U THIS, it will take 60 years to build plus a bridge 2.6 miles on the Westside of Corning Arkansas. Because of black river and the flood zone. Cost factor is another so that, will drag in more years adding on 5 to 10. Starting point will begin at the Arkansas and Missouri state line. The NEARIFA is not a very good system that really do not Impress me much. Not one knows which end to follow waste of people's hard tax money. I wish for someone from NEARIFA to Publish what they had done and what is plan for the future as JOBS. As for the HWY 67 you know everything isn't set in stone things can change! Keep the NEARIFA out. NEED TO CONTACT YOUR LOCAL "state representatives and senators" on the HWY 67.

I wonder if this news will finally make it clear that Poky is NOT the center of the universe? Discouraging new businesses, spending money on parks with ugly fountains, killing the downtown area with one way streets and flower beds in parking places, and trying to undermine the neighboring towns by luring their business... all sounds like arrogance to me. The old money is the only money left around here and apparently it isn't as important as they seem to think!

Those bridges are exactly why that route they are wanting will never happen. It is cheaper to bring the 4-lane the same route it already goes. That and politics will help keep it coming through/right next to Pocahontas.

I didn't realize we had a Hungarian population here in Pocahontas. I had heard that Carrol's Store had foreign speaking people in there wanting her to stock GOULASH. They liked the fudge and the chow-chow but were looking for goulash. I am glad we are catering to international visitors now that have a 1936 caboose.

<quoted text>
Your mistaken about it being cheaper to follow the existing route. There are numerious bridges and current & fourche rivers to cross. Why do you think the Rail Road went through delaplane and Knobel. There is Only one bad low place at Holland Camp if the eastern route is used. The Rail Road built a trestle there. Its pretty long but that was back when they moved dirt with mules. Today the highway would be on a levee fill. Pocahontas politics is the reason for the delay in the 4 lane. The insistence of the Local GOB,s of the Unfeasable Poky route is the main sticking point with the hwy dept engineers.

Did it take 60 years for the newer bridge in Poky to be built? the road would be built east of Corning. Two bridges one at Holland Camp and the other across Black river. And black river is much smaller at corning becaust its upstream of current & fouche rivers. going the existing route you would have Black river,Fouche &Current rivers plus all of the sloughs. Estimated cost going through Delaplane & Knobel is 60 million. Estimated cost of following the existing route is 120 million. NEARIFA is falling apart. The plan to bribe & lure the walnut ridge plant to Poky has caused a rift. Its now Lawerence & Clay counties Against Poky & Randolph County. Conway Jarrett who is now deceased used to state that none of thers projects like watershed lakes & roads never get built until the Politics get Right. He was correct.

Ouit Being a Denialist. Face the facts There will never be production manufacturing Jobs the Caliber of Waterloo in poky or NE Arkansas ever again. The Whole manufacturing industry in the USA is in decline and will never rebound. The Middle class is dimishing. The Gap between the wealthy and poor is widening. You might move but its not that much better anyplace else. I moved away but a Truck Driver can live anyplace they wish. What is needed is the local goverment to cut spending and be fiscally responsible and give the Tax paying citizens a break!

Your correct. But go back and read the Post. Where have I ever mentioned interstate? I stated four lane road. Its a viable more affordable plan to build a 4 lane 67 to the MO.State line. It would be reduced speed from a interstate but would relieve congestion & save fuel. It would simply be a nice 4 lane road like we have from Poky to Jonesboro.

Esna is just a small fraction of what it was. The boot factory is a joke. We know all adout larry Don Rose & pocahontas aluminum and the employees from aid temporary. If the airbase factories are doing go great why is Nut Hill a poster boy example of empty decaying buildings? Be real the fact is None of the places you mention are the Caliber of what Waterloo was in its heyday. Waterloo was a plum factory lured here by realatively low wages. And it left to go where the wages & cost of production was much cheaper. The steel mill at blytheville does have good paying jobs. However they dont have a large number of employees. That mill is a step down from the Airbase they once had. The food factories in jonesboro are low pay. Hytrol in jonesboro shut down. Jonesboro is having problems with unemployed & underemployed. Paragould has the rail car factory but who wants to weld full time and be blind in five years? I stand by my statement that Manufacturing in the USA is in decline and will never ever rebound and the middle class is going extinct. This isnt hating its being realistic and facing the cold hard unpleasnt facts. Im certianly not Depressed although the USA,s manufacturing industry is indeed depressed.
