Oh how I loved that old skating rink! The one out across from Baltz Lake .. Gerald Broadway ran that place and was such a sweet old man. Johnny Rapert had the Tastee Freeze and Burley Hosman had the Dairy Center across from IGA . I think that was the name, I could be wrong in my "old age". Circling Sonic and Pizza Hut and parking and visiting at the Dairy Queen. Nothing for kids to do now. What a shame

We could not afford a tastee freeze BBQ with the great slaw and would cut one in 3 pieces and each pay 1/3rd and drink water and think we were in tall cotton. We could't understand how a teenager could afford fries, milkshake AND a BBQ. We could't afford the shoe skates and would rent the clamp skates which would come off all the time but you were sure looking good while they would stay on your shoes.

Penny Pincher, Hogans C Store right outside of town, hanging at Flash Market after school, circling sonic on the weekends. We would hang at skating rink for a bit then go circle Sonic.$5 would buy all my gas for the weekend. And payphones. My mom would never let me leave the house without a dime in my pocket incase I needed to call home! Lol

Does anyone remember when KFC use to be sitting in the middle of the intersection in front of the old Brown Shoe Bldg.(Rancho Bravo)? Or when there was only ONE bridge going across Black River, or when Wal-Mart was in the bldg. where Haley's is now. Or when Nu-Way Foods was in the shopping center next to The Dollar Store. Or when Prichard's Furniture was out on HWY 115 past the city shed in the place where the church is now? I do!

I remember walking to the city pool and on the way back we would go through town and stop at Terry's Quick Stop. When I was really young, my grandpa used to take me to Kings Grocery on Park Street across from Griggs. Who remembers Joe Petes?

Oh yes, those were the days. Joe Pete's, Sterlings, Kings Department Store (Where the cafe is now),across the street where the library is was Van Atkins, next door was Ben Franklin's ten cent store (instead of "dime"), where Counter Concepts is now Otasco was there ran by J.L. Jackson. We had a wonderful town in those days. If we could get together and build this town again, and parents raised their children as we were raised we wouldn't have to have as many prisons and families would be together to enjoy the life of peace and tranquillity.
We were raised in the best of times, sure, many thought it was rough-but in the long run not any rougher than things are today. People were raised to handle things better, to respect themselves and others. Today it is all "ME, ME, ME". And so many standing around for a handout. Back in those days we were not afraid to work for minimum wage, we were not afraid of hard work, and sure didn't think we were susposed to start a marriage with what it took our parents twenty-five to gain, or that our parents owed it to us to support us from womb to tomb.

Daily Horoscope for May 19

Pisces

Happily, the atmosphere starts to lighten today, leading to a much more comfortable time. You'll also find it easy to get on well with other people, which will come as a big relief. You may even be able to make amends for what happened yesterday and reach some sort of agreement at long last. If you're going to a social event you'll have a really good time.
