Kids hanging out in town isn't what bothers me. It's the spoiled immature ones who take everything for granted that just bug the hell outta me

parents and kids should learn to entertain themselves if they WANT more. buy you own pool! or open up a skating rink, jump center, or pool hall/arcade center. taxpayers shouldn't have to satisfy kids every want and wish. they're not our kids. YOU do it.
stop with your wants off the backs of others!
live in the real world and stop spoiling the kids.
where did you grow up to expect so much?
we taxpayers furnish them much more than other towns.
go look at corning or walnut ridge, or smaller towns. what do they have?
we have a big enough pool, and enough peewee programs, and enough ball fields, and enough city parks, a community center, and community events, and church programs, and schools, and school athletics, and school events, and rivers, and lakes, etc.
move to jbr or paragould if you to be with 25,000 folks and WANT more to do.

I will soon be 50 years old and I'm excited about the water park for myself, my grown kids and my grandkids. None of us live in Pocahontas but we buy groceries and eat at restaurants in Pocahontas. We also use the pool that is there now and have for many years. We aren't rich! Did you ever think that the people in Walnut Ridge, Imboden, Corning, etc will be coming to Pocahontas to use the water park and therefore be boosting the economy in Pocahontas? Just because you don't want to use the water park doesn't mean it isn't a good thing...

the pools will take an additional 1 million out of the local economy for 12 years for the entertainment of the minority for a few months a year. then there is the heat and maintenance and staffing for the rest of the year for very few users.

a possible few dozen visitors boosting the economy is a joke vs the costs to the locals, poor, and non users. tax dollars should be for more important needs, not wants and wasteful luxury. city council of a town our size should of never considered and backed such an expensive project or brought it to a vote in a special election.

We can't afford the ridiculous increase in taxes on everything we use or buy, whoever came up with this idea is a MORON.

I hear there's a idea to have a National Meth museum located in the old Waterloo building. Maybe we should look into attracting some drug manufacturing or mexican gangs here...and they can take care of some of our big girls...

If you live in Corning are you going to drive 25 miles to Pocahontas and pay $5+ to get into a swimming pool with hour of 1pm-5pm. Plus eat at the same resturants as you have in Corning (it will be more expensive here than Corning because of our new tax rate)and shop at the same stores here that are in Corning (again more expensive here).

OR will you as a Corning resident drive and extra 5 miles to Poplar Bluff for a real Water Park with go-karts and putt putt golf. You can get into the Water Park up there for around $5 in the afternoons. Plus they have a movie theater, LOTS of resturants, LOTS of stores, its a wet county for those interested, and if McDonald's is still your thing it will be cheaper there because of the tax rate (their tax rate is lower now than ours is before the increase coming).

Please think logically about these things...

...plus if you are a Walnut Ridge resident its 20 mins to our new pool or 30 mins to the swimming complex in Paragould. Please see the reasons for a Corning resident to go to Poplar Bluff instead of coming to Pocahontas and apply them to the Walnut Ridge resident going to Paragould (resturants, stores, etc.).

"Please think logically about these things..."

council and "progress" bunch don't have a clue or think logically about reality and what's right for the majority of non pool users and the taxpayers.

their wet dream wants were more important to them than our money and needs. huge price tag and special election proves it. poor leadership.

why were council and false progress folks scared to put it to a real vote?
cowards and poor leadership.

on topic - the teenagers driving and hanging out around town in their vehicles at nite WILL NOT be paying admission and swimming at the pools. use your eyes.

the cadillac plans developed for and by the minority and pushed on the council, along with the progress argument, and then having a special election $ucked.
480 votes in a special election bought us a $7.5 and 1/2 million a year forever tax bill. council should of stopped it at about 2 mil and put it on the general ballot or paid for it with the burger tax. cowards and poor leadership.
taxpayers are entitled to bitch, whine, and complain when their elected officials roll over and play stupid with OUR money.

Why don't you volunteer your place? Think of it,
trucks spinning donuts in the front yard and kids getting drunk in the backyard. Why don't also just let them have free use of the bedrooms too.

plain and simple indeed -
"the SHIT has already been voted in"

GREAT DESCRIPTION of the entire project and process - the weak need by the huge majority of citizens, the huge want by the small minority, the outrageous costs, the council approving it, and having a special election.

the city council completely ignoring wise use of MILLIONS of OUR tax dollars and also having a special election instead of it being at a general election is wrong any way you look at it.

piss poor leadership when they do that on a HUGE tax vote hoping for a low turnout. all to get their buddy's personal agenda wet dream wants for a small minority of citizens passed onto the backs of all the taxpayers.

they know it wasn't right. and simply don't care about anything but their power trips.

like their ambulance franchise - more in your face arrogant wrongheaded reckless leadership from the council - this time on a huge unneeded multi-million tax project just for a small vocal minority of our citizens.

the special election poor voter turnout of 25% won it as they hoped.
sad gutless way to do business on a tax vote affecting the entire city and most of the county population

guess they are happy taking multi-millions from the poor and struggling in this town and county for the pleasure of the small minority that will use it so little.

shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame on the council for their poor leadership.
they should hang their heads in shame when they look the local taxpayers in the eyes.

Before you gripe about every teen out there maybe you should know some before make accusations! The kids have no where to go and nothing to do and butt heads like you treating them like crap when they don't deserve it. They just want to hang out and talk to their friends. We where allowed to cruise and they can't even to that. So, maybe instead of complaining about the situation you could come up with a solution.

Are for real?
what do you mean no where to go? there are the parks, the rivers, the community center, hanging out with their friends and maybe bragging about how many you have seduced. How about having the kids clean the house, visit the elderly and learn not to be a self centered creep like you.
