The county couldn't run it, the city has no business in trying to run the Hospital. Sell it or just have a ER. NO NEW TAXES

Governments, im talking feds down to locals like cities are going to have to learn to make do with what you have to do with. just like us folks and our households. the answer cant be everytime you need something , just raise taxes. and the people of Pocahontas are going to have to learn how to say NO!!!! in a few years, when your pool is built, and you have a bigger and better jail, and a hospital that no one will use. itll be to late. peoplewill not just keep coming into your town to spend money and pay your taxes that are alreay to high. if the local people in your government didn't see the handwriting on the wall about your hospital, and jail before they asked you for a swimming pool, they don't belong in office.

Why do a few people keep saying that the pool vote was "sneaked" on the ballot? There were signs all over town, ads in the paper, ads on radio, a story on KAIT, and everyone in town was talking about it. Every single voter in Pocahontas knew about the pool vote. You may not like the outcome, but it didn't pass because it was snuck by anyone.

<quoted text>unlikely... the powers that be planned it this way, sneaked the pool vote in a special election designed to keep opponents from voting. the city council knew all along about the financial situation at the hospital, yet they chose to ramrod the pool vote through instead of addressing the physical needs of the citizens. We simply have to live with it. Or, spend our money in Jonesboro at one of those hospitals.

So people are saying we need an er? What about the senior care unit that is quite successful and people and nursing homes in all if northeast arkansaa prefers our senior care. What about the excellent physical therapy department and home health that provides services in our area that compares to or beats larger hospitals? There is more our community would loose than just acute care hospital. I believe we would also loose the few industries we still have along with some dedicated doctors in our area. Go to jonesboro doctor. You are just another number there

I'll use the word "sneaked" every day.... I'll use that word because the vote was planned as a special election? Why couldn't it wait for a general election? Because proponents knew they would likely lose the vote in a general election. A special election would likely attract a majority of those in favor. Considering that, do you think the pool vote light turnout is a true representation of the wishes of all regular voters? You really dont know, and dont want to know. This type of manipulation is a political ploy to reduce the number of opposition votes. Kind of like redrawing voting district lines to favor your candidate. Kinda..... sneaky.

I won't vote for a tax anytime. Taxes are strangling us already. I shop out of Taxahontas already when I can and it's convenient. I haven't been to or had to pay a hospital bill in many years. But this one charged significantly more than what my insurance considered customary. They charge more than others and are broke. They must be mismanaging or stealing. I'll vote no. Maybe if it goes under we won't be stuck in the middle of 500 stinking chicken houses as a bonus.

The turn out wasn't that light. It was actually higher than in the primary earlier this year, so that disproves your argument. Everyone knew about the election and had two weeks to early vote plus Election Day itself. If someone didn't care enough one way or the other to vote then that says they didn't care how it turned out. There is nothing sneaky about an election that was as widely publicized as that one! There is nothing sneaky about an election that EVERYONE knew about, If they had waited for a general election then it would have had to wait another year and a half to put it on the ballot. You are just pissed that the the vote turned out differently than you wanted.

And would be much more profitable if those services didn't have the burden of a CEO, CFO, CNO, and all the merry managers an their salaries, that all go home everyday between 3 n 5.

Your argument is weak... the primary numbers mean nothing, its the general election numbers that tell the story. You play the numbers game as well as any council member, hmmmm? I see reckless spending pushed by people with a personal agenda. I'm pissed because I see this everywhere, its irresponsible. Then again, I'm laughing as well, because none of this affects me. Go ahead and collect TWENTY MILLION DOLLARS from Pocahontas shoppers before the pool is paid off. See if happy ever after really exists.

The main problem with this area is people that have never ran anything right in their life get gravy jobs where they continue to screw up. They bounce from job to job for years never being able to work out then all of a sudden they are hired or elected and plant their ass down and hang on for life while we suffer from their being lazy or stupid or both. Are afraid to hire someone that has had success in their career or retired from a place where they preformed and excelled at their work? I see the same old tired Chickenheads stumbling around pretending to "serve the people", while they are just looking out for themselves and a few friends.

All those good old Boys on the city counsel have learned the Chicago way, maybe some of them might be hoping for a reward from the construction contractors or suppliers for the pool.

The Pool Tax will never end and it's all because some people wanted a new pool for the local swim team.
That Pool tax would not pass now because of the need for monies to repair the jail and the to fund the failing local hospital.
Soon Local sales taxes will be near 11% if all these measures pass.

If we are now facing a vote for a hospital tax, and possibly a jail tax, can the swimming pool tax be repealed? I think the other two are more important....
IF IT IS NOT TO LATE, THAT IS WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN. BUY OUT THE CONTRACT AS BEST WE CAN, BUILD A MILLION $ POOL, AND PUT THE REST IN THE HOSPITAL AND PRISON EXPANSION.
THE HOSPITAL IS IN TROUBLE BECAUSE THE CITY PAID TEN TIMES THE PRICE THAT IT COULD HAVE BEEN BOUGHT FAR. WANT PROOF? GO BACK AND LOOK WHERE THE PREVIOUS COMPANY WAS BAILING OUT, AND WE COULD HAVE PICKED IT UP FOR A PITTANCE IN
LESS THAN 6 MONTHS. BUT NO, THEY HAD TO RUSH IN AND PAY FULL PRICE.
