corrected - why should we believe they will do better this time?

would be good to see what they think his problems were and if he was given a chance to fix them.

the community college exists only to keep government funding coming in to a few select pockets in the area. To call it a diploma mill is an injustice to diploma mills past present and future. There are so many layers of graft at work at BRTC a battalion of forensic accountants couldn't sort it out in a year. Clearly no one realizes how much money comes in and where it goes.

They need to hire Jan Z, if you want to clean things up at BRTC then she needs to go!

I wonder if the new President will get rid of all the alcoholic and druggie employees. Or the ones who routinely sleep with the students.

It would be interesting to know the real story. Is this another "good old boy" decision? The current president did not bow to the good old boy system and so they decided to not renew his contract? Or ?? why is he given only a one year opportunity? Probably will never know...

I wouldn't hire that crazy liberal idiot to mow the yard. She is NOT what the college needs.

Please define bad hire
Sounds like someone is assuming the board had to be right and the dude had to be wrong!

That "diploma mill" was the only opportunity I had at college when I went there. Were it not for BRTC I wouldn't have the job I have today nor the opportunities that have presented themselves to me over my career. And there are countless others that fine institution has served also.

I will agree that the President may not be the best for the college, there is always someone better no matter who you hire, he has done a pretty good job. Why is he being replaced? Some people do not agree with where some of the money has been going, and some of the faculty and staff are not pleased with having to actually work. Many of the employees at BRTC are pretty lazy and I can name many that will do nothing but sit on facebook the majority of the day. The President was spending money by sending the faculty to get their required education that they are supposed to maintain every year. He also had many project for employees to complete, but many of them did not like the fact that they actually had to work. I'm sure there is a lot more behind it and he may well have done something wrong but he is an honest Christian man who has been pretty successful in the passed. He's just one of the few presidents who have actually been interested in improving brtc.

Interesting what Canadians think of their CCs. I'm glad we have statistics that prove that ours aren't diploma mills. As for the money...state law requires that it be audited every year.
Hopefully all the Maple Leafs are not as opinionated. After all, we want to be good neighbors, and it sounds like you have some good experience at helping us with a thing or two...

I question the employment practices of a technical college board that chooses a candidate with little to no public higher education experience as its president. Clearly, the other candidates were significantly more qualified than the local favorite. The new president may be a nice guy, but his experience pales in comparison to that of Dr. Hatcher and the other candidates who made the short list or the final cut. Williams Baptist College is a very small school that is barely on the higher education radar screen at the state level. Nepotism and the good old boy system appear to be alive and well here in Pocahontas.

I do not know what you mean by warefare school, but BRTC is a good public technical college. Unfortunately, the trustees have shown a complete lack of due diligence in carrying out the role of a policy-making board. The good old boys have spoken once again. The taxpayers of our community deserve better. Our students deserve much better!
