Randolph County and the City of Pocahontas needs to really wake up and think about what things are going to be like around here without our HOSPITAL. I was in Jonesboro about two weeks ago and was there from eight o'clock in the morning until eight o'clock that night for just a simple procedure being done. Had close to the same procedure done here this week at the hospital and checked in at eight that morning and was on my way home by ten that morning. Was treated very well, and all of my needs were met with care and kindness. But I guess when you are dealing with the genius minds of people that think we need water parks, what more could we ask for.

that's exactly what we need here, more dumasses that don't understand constructive criticism. Don't you realize that the poster was begging for help for the hospital? Never mind, you go ahead and vote for Tim, hopefully there aren't too many like you.

Chicken factory in Randolph County.

Wait till
it opens with 1,000 Hispanic employees. The most likely housing will be Shannon Barrio

There will probably be at least 1,000 students for the schools to teach.

You just don't realize the problems and smell that is being dumped on this county.

Been There and Saw it happen.

Guess I'm not as smart as you but the way I seen that comment was someone complaining about the hospital in Jonesboro, the hospital in Pocahontas all taking too long and who voted for who.
You're comment sounds just the same!!!

ol man please c a r e f u l l y read the post and do the math... 12 hours for the procedure in jonesboro, and two hours for Pocahontas. there is no way to interpret the comment other than Pocahontas hospital is the best choice. you'd best look again. you'll seen that comment differently.

The hospital here is a joke. if people really think having a $#!t hole like 5 rivers medical center here in town means one bit of difference to the average person, you probably also believe that having tractor trailers going up and down thomasville is better then having a bypass.
The hospital deal was one Baltz buying a business with taxpayer money so other Baltz's could continue to earn a paycheck. Just like the land "grant" for the peanut shed.
If the government actually inspected 5 rivers and did their due diligence that place would be burned to the ground. However since it's owned by city they get waivers for everything and excuse themselves for everything else. No reputable healthcare professionals work there only the dregs who had to find rocks to hide under because they couldn't cut it out there in the world.
Hope you enjoy Joe Griders water park while you're at it to. Pocahontas will be bankrupt in a the next few years so have fun before the ride is over.

Ole Dickson is letting people know the truth while city council tries to make excuses. They led people believe that tax was for the hospital. The truth shall set u free.

Very scary!!! City doesn't own the business it's the Board of Directors who runs the HOSPITAL! City just owns the property! Sounds like the Board of Directors has a BIG PROBLEM! I don't think they are run the hospital right. Let me rephrase; The BOARD is not running the hospital RIGHT!

Yet when the city was not happy with the performance of the hospital management company, they didn't hesitate to fire those people.... and it cost the city a lawsuit and a settlement. DO NOT try to pretend that the city is not up to their elbows in this.

The article placed in the paper by the city council demonstrates how easily the facts can be manipulated. Why bother to make the comparison between the 7.5M city and 31M hospital budget? What does that tell us? The hospital may be a couple million or whatever shy of its needs, but at least it generates a significant payroll for the community. What the response fails to mention is that in addition to the 7.5M city budget, our aldermen are prepared to suck at least a million a year out of the local economy and dump it into a pool, providing at most a few part time lifeguard jobs, while sacrificing dozens upon dozens of high paying hospital jobs. This is the problem, priorities are all out of whack. I say that actions speak louder than words.... and it is obvious that the city council doesn't really support the hospital.

If the hospital is generating such an enormous amount of funds. Why cut the nursing staff and nursing staff pay. There must be other things to cut before getting to the people who actually lay hands on the patients.
Doesn't make sense to cut the nurses pay. They are the ones who are expected to do all and know all and smile while they are doing it.
I agree

I add this to your words... I strongly agree! But, as A pool supporter I voted for the pool. At the time of voting I thought the hospital was doing OK . If I then know that they were having problems I would not have voted. At the time I was thinking of the children and adults have a great place to have for fun.. But, anyway it's done deal and they can work it out to save the hospital ... I agree.. I would vote another tax help fund more on the hospital . I say actions speak louder than words. God bless us all!

Re: new pool complex. Really hope city thought sanitary issues through. Making sure people shower prior to getting into pool.
All of the chemicals that's required to kill bacteria that can grow in and around the areas.
With the new chicken plant coming and all.
Wonder which will come first
The chicken or the pool?
SURE wish it was a car or tractor factory.....

not positive on the exact figures, but believe OUR leadership paid about 7 million for the hospital and will pay 7+ million for a pool complex.

sad that Lawrence and now maybe Sharp will fund their hospitals with a full 1 cent tax and we only ended up passing 1/4 cent for ours and 3/4 cent for roads and econ dev.

piss poor leadership, priorities, and actions by the council imo

and no competion to the councilmen in the election?
where are those 1000+ voters that they ran over on the ambulance issue
realize many wouldn't want inherit their mess and problems, but hopefully there may still be time for some independents to announce.

Priorities in Pocahontas are all about the bottom line. One would think that the hospital would be top priority but hiding the facts about the hospitals finances and holding a quick "special election" about the pool complex showed the city councils true colours.
Kinda like other changes in this town--

City leaders, (led by Joe Grider), did not help the town with the pool fiasco.
