Is it just me or is the school system in Pocahontas failing us and our kids? Here are some examples..
1.Drop outs are on the rise
2.Kids that get attacked at school get suspended longer than the one that started the fight.
3.Bullying policy is a joke!
4.High schoolers that cant read well or do basic math skills.
5.Books are taped together, but we have new softball and football complexes.
6. Jr. high band is almost gone due to lack of participation.
7. Mr. Chester needs to learn how to tell the truth. Mrs. Crabbe fails students for sport.

Most,(not all) teachers are there for paychecks, not to provide a lifelong gift to our children.
8. Their is a sucking sound of children being sent to Maynard and other schools.(hoxie)

I am venting my frustrations, I'm sure some highly educated person will have something negative to say about this post, but what should I expect, this is the armpit of the earth. You can put make-up on a terd, but it still stinks.

Continue of 'shotgun':

9. half the high school is pregnant
10. half of the junior high is following in their footsteps
11. most teachers just teach out of the books,(dont put any of their knowledge in it)
12. the admissions are real stingy
13. They stick to the guidelines or whatever way too much, whats it gonna hurt to take a day off?
14. They load us down with way too much work (well some do)

--Dont get me wrong, i love pocahontas redskins, but the school is lacking. They just need to calm down, add some fun in there somewhere.(and yea, i know, schools arent supposed to be fun, but if all else fails, it wouldnt hurt)

I went to pocahontas as well, never saw a taped up book until about 2 years ago. It stated in the front, "poor condition" and it was duct tape. Dont worry though, the teacher never made the students use the book. Maybe you should consider when you went to school that different people were in charge and these things this rarely happened. It was a good/no great school at one time.

Now lets back up a minute; Most of the blame could fall on the Parents shoulders, the school can not be responsible for what the kids do at home, the big party at the finish of last year could be a good example of what I am talking about. Parents had a tissy because the police raided the place, did you ever think how many kids life was saved by what happened that night, or how many girls went home like they came.   My parents sent me to school and if I got into trouble my parents called the school and if things checked out in the schools favor I was in trouble at home in the worst way.  My parents knew that kids do lie in order to make their case I believe if you check it out all kids lie. I did, and my kids did.

What? Are we talking about the same thing? Priorities of the school... Books or Football complex Unfair practices at school. Ect...
What are you talking about? The party raid last year? This was at a private residence, with some poor judement on the parents part, what does that have to do with poor management and lack of professional ethics at the school? Trust me, the parents do a lot of teaching at home because the school doesnt give the kids the tools they need to accomplish learning processes. My kids work on homework for 2-3 hours a night.when my kids ask me simple math questions, I ask them , "Did you ask the teachr"? Their reply.( "the teacher told us it's in the book") Yea, after school parties is really appropriate in this conversation, keep up the good work.

I graduated from phs in 08 and I loved it there. The teachers were there to teach not for their paycheck because honestly teachers are under paid. Through out my years from 7th to 12th all my teachers were there to help me if I had troubles. We have a wonderful staff in all areas. They truly helped prepare me for college and I am grateful for each and every single one of them. Sure there may be tough teachers but they are there to teach and help you learn, not to goof around and do nothing. So to any phs staff member that reads this, thank you for every piece of knowledge you have put in me.

I went to Maynard but wish I'd gone to Pocahontas. The atmosphere of the students is a lot better, and where you can look at BRTC at the number of people from Maynard in remedial algebra classes, you probably won't see half as many from Pocahontas. I'm just saying.

I use to think Pocahontas was a great school...I graduated from there...but I do believe that our school system stinks. I know from experience.Kids that get attacked at school get suspended longer than the one that started the fight. Our kids are treated very unfairly unless you are somebody important and the faculity at Pocahontas High...starting with the office needs to be cleaned out and all new added...and I also think that the counselor needs to stick with what she is suppose to be there for and not getting nosey in teenagers love life and telling them "that is no reason to break up with them" all in all Pocahontas is not so GREAT anymore

Poco is a shit hole. You cant expect much from your teachers. The are just doing a job. To much work for to little pay. parents got to get involved if they want production. You cant blame your kids failure on the teachers. Parents get your head out of your ass.Lead by example!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I don't have the last name or the money to help my kids and they both are popular, make good grades and participate on several athletic teams. I've taught them that they have to work hard for want they want..it won't be handed to them easily. It's hard for them to stand by and watch things come freely to some of their friends, but they know that they've earned everything they have accomplished.

Ummm....That's not the schools fault. You need to look at the parents on that one.

Most are not??? How do you know. I'm assuming you've done an extensive research of hundreds of pocahontas alumini to come up with your opinion? And yes, an opinion is what it is and there is no credibility to that. You only speak for you and a small amount of peers.

the problem that i am seeing in this district is the people who are in no position to give orders, do give orders. i do not believe in any way that secretaries or rceptionists should be allowed to punish/bark oreders at/etc to the students.
