I'm in the planning stages of a move "east" from the Midwest, and have found ads for a couple of jobs for which I'm qualified.

What's it like in Wilkes-Barre? Is it a good place to live? Good housing & neighborhoods? Schools are not important to me at all. I have no kids.

I still have friends in town. They tell me that if you live in one of the better areas, stay away from the wrong places, and behave, it's not a bad place.

Thank you everyone for the pleasant words and helpful hints!

So, which is the "right side of town" and where are the "wrong places" we should avoid? We know nothing about the area, at all.

That's hard to say for me as I've been gone for quite awhile. Here's a link to the major paper in town. It may help.

Some very nice places to live would be the town of kingston, luzerne, forty fort, dallas, shavertown, the whole general area is very nice and family oriented, not much crime in this area, you can't find a nicer place to live, rents in this area very low cost. These towns are all clost to one another.

I would hope that the Dallas/Shavertown areas may have missed out on the influx rough individuals from N.Y.C. and Phila. but you will need to be careful. Do some research at some of the mentioned sites online.

Hope this isn't to late. Leo Solomon Plains is the best elementary school for your little girl. My son is in 1st grade now and my daughter went there k-8th. Good Luck

WB is a nice area, but the surrounding areas can be even nicer.

Hazleton is way more exciting and it has a growing Dominican community.
