Gov. Deval, isn't it time to do away with ALL Sheriff's across the state? The message is on the wall, and that wall is in the toilet, can you smell it now? The time has come, let the DOC run them now.

this is just the tip of the Iceberg, with government waste in Mass., the tax payers deserve what they vote for, if the reduction in the State Meals Tax had been approved it would of forced all these reductions in these special areas of the budget that the political cronies and hacks continue to support and hide form the citizens. We'll just keep rising taxes and continue to support all these overfunded agencies.

Who needs the Sheriff's department to serve civil process? That's what process servers and constables do. The Sheriff's Department should not bother with service of process. This would save millions of dollars to tax payers each year!

I agree with the above, abolish the Sheriff's Department and let the Department of Correction run the jails.

What an embarassment. Let the DOC take over and you eliminate all these political hacks! They've been pretennding to be police for years. There will be more to come for the
"honorable" James Dipaola, maybe an indictment. I can already see all the rats, his boys, who are going to be retiring before the new guy comes in.

DiPaola's gotta be leaving for a reason. This is no coincidence that he is stepping down as this report comes out.

If there is any wrongdoing these guys should be held accountable, removed from office, and their pensions taken away. It's that simple.

First of all; good riddance to bad trash! What side of the bars should these sheriffs be on anyway?

It seems like the New England Center for Investigative Reporting deserves credit for alerting the public that millions of dollars are "being lost to inefficiencies and questionable fiscal practices" in sheriff's offices across the state.
