My girlfriend and I are looking at moving to Louisville (for her to attend UofL), but we've heard some pretty sketchy things about the area. I was wondering if it's really as bad as what people say? Or is it as a whole a pretty safe place? Of course, this is asked with the fact there are good/bad pockets in every city in mind. Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't move to the inner city, too many thugs and gangbangers. Move to the J-Town or Middletown area even the Hikes Point area,it is worth the drive

I agree. Avoid louisville. The negatives abundantly outweigh the positives. Southern Indiana offers a refreshing and safer alternative while still making the commute tolerable. However. Once the crooks lay thier tolls on the bridges, this may not be the optimum choice. Just avoid the immediate louisville area if possible. Proximity isn't worth it. A lengthier drive equates to a happier life.

I agree with the above comment. Stay close to Louisville but not IN it. The east end in general is safer than any other part but more expensive to live. Southern Indiana is awesome. The area around UofL can be dangerous but not like the battleground of the west end where people get murdered daily.

My fiance got a job here so we moved here from Indianapolis. We stayed in the Hurstbourne area for a month. We bought a house 2 months later close to the west end. Since we've been here my car was stolen from the Shively library parking lot the city hall is connected to the library & the police & fire station is connected exactly right behind it. The police came over to write the report but, Did not offer my son or fiance a ride home or any assistance thereafter. Shively police are PREJUDICE & Rude. If I were u I would follow the advice of others & move East they are much more friendlier on that side. I know we wish we would have taken a poll. Good luck with ur move. There are bad people every where to be truthfully honest.

Oh did I mention that with the City hall, library, police & fire station all in the same proximity No one saw anything. They kept passing the buck to one another. I was told by the library to check with the Shively city hall to view there cameras. The city hall told me to talk to the Shively police & they said that the 3 cameras they had one was facing the ground, one was struck by lightening & the last one wasn't working. Now what kinda cockamaney mess is that? Plus the homicide rate in this small city is through the frickin roof!

Louisville is the possibility city, which means, there's a possibility, of the LMPD shattering your nose to pieces, for allegedly jaywalking. Welcome!
