New Athens man faces more trouble with police

A New Athens man facing burglary and drug charges may be in more trouble with police. Dustin J. Lybarger, 29, of 1105 S. Mill St. in New Athens , was stopped by New Athens Police Chief Larry Kirk for a traffic violation on June 8. Kirk discovered less than 15 grams of cocaine and prescription drugs, police said. Agents with the St. Clair County Drug Tactical Unit questioned Lybarger in connection with a prescription pill ring, Sgt. Thomas Trice said. He was also questioned about a series of car burglaries at a gas station where wallets, change and alcohol were taken on the same day Lybarger applied for a job at the station. Read more

This is innopropriate. Yes, he had a problem with drugs. Did he say anything denying his problem? This small town does nothing but gossip and gossip more. The people that are leaving comments on here have no idea what its like to have an addiction. The moral of the story is that he learned his lesson and got the help he needed and has been clean for over 2 years now. He has a job and a family now so instead of making negative comments about the guy you all should be proud of him for bettering himself!

I don't know you but I wanted to say good job for being clean for 2 years now. Addictions are hard to overcome. My neice is in the hospital now as we speak for drug use and I know it will be hard for her not to have a slip when she comes home (especially in this twisted town). People are so judgemental here when they should take a look at themselves and take a look around them. People make mistakes and nobody is perfect. If people would try to give some encouragement and support it could make all the difference in the world. Congrats again on your recovery Dustin.

Thanks to the people that know what addiction is i like to tell all of people out there it sure isnt easy but u can overcome the demons i hope your neice is ok she probaly will have a slip but thats part of recovery and long as you dont stay out and you comeback, some people dont want to look at them selfs because they r scared of what they might see. well love all and take care

It's very hard for a person to overcome a drug addiction. People out there who have never had a drug addiction or any kind of addiction,doesn't know how hard it is to get clean and stay clean. I'm just glad there are people out there who don't judge on things that happened in the past. Way to go Dustin on turning your life around.

you know who i mean. once you realize some people are bottom dwellers who will never give it up then you may have a chance. i found out a long time ago if you surround yourself with scum you get dirty also.

A family huh? Who he is with isn't something worth bragging about. Lets see here. Lybarger the drug addict or Mathis with a murderer in the family. You should be so proud!

I tend to agree with this. Certain individuals you hang with are only going to get you thrown behind bars. Running with them should've stopped when you claim you cleaned up.
