How sexist! If there was a meeting to recognize men of innovation, NOW and other similar groups would be protesting like crazy until it was changed but they can do this for women and there's not a peep. Just like the CT Women's Hall of Fame. There is no Men's Hall of Fame. So much for equal treatment. What a joke.

The article is about the CTC's 2009 Women of Innovation, yet the picture accompanying the story is of four men. Why not a picture of the women who won the awards?

Thank you for the kind mention Maryellen. It was a great and inspiring evening for everyone who was there and I am delighted that you captured some of this for your readers.
For anyone looking for other pictures with lots of women, please go to www.ctc.org for hundreds of them.
As for the issue about why do such and event and why not a "men of innovation" dinner, the truth is we do many awards events during the course of the year and 90% of the award winners are men. We realized that many very talented women operate just below the rador. Some in large corporations where they do breakthrough work but may not be the "face" of innovation at the corporate level or who have started companies that have not yet gotten into the headlines. The reality is that for a generation of women who are now at the peak of their careers, their early path had many political and cultural hurdles to overcome. This is not true for the younger geneation perhaps, but the lessons from them about what we can all do to atract more young people of either gender into the sciences is also valuable.
The intensity of the interest and the level of heartfelt emotion in the room each year - from men and women - tells us that the event and the stories it brings out is very much needed.
