If I was a young Urbanite I could be lured in to at least look at these designs.. but where I live and surrounding areas 'traditional' style is more popular plus I am not sure there are too many folks around here that could afford spending over a thousand dollars on just one sofa. Good luck with trying to sell a light colored sofa to a house where there are young children and pets Mr.J.

I have looked online at a few things, ridiculously expensive. 1100 for a lime greem bookshelf....really? Folks in the midwest won't spend that kind of money, this isn't nyc or la. Not to mention a lot of folks who struggle due to layoffs etc. On their fb page they show a toaster shaped like bread.....60 bucks. Folks here will go to wm and pay 10 to 15.

Ronnie boy is banking on this junk going out of style fast, well it isn't really style it is fad there is a major difference, "young" people upgrade/change their home products more often the older, read this the under 30 group, JCP has said so. What is so funny this is the least group that can really afford constantly rebuying over and over expensive home products. This is what JCP and Ronnie's visions boiled down to, the cell phone, tablet fad buying aka buy that iPad 3 the iPad 4 is already wanting to replace it, big $$$.

We sold plenty of couchs and toasters this weekend, but we are still going to change the shops back to the old way. The change starts this week. Old people ruined it for all of us again.

jcpgirl: What do you mean your are changing the shops to the old ways? We don't carry furniture at our store so I wasn't sure what you meant.

The "old way" part I am disliking is this tendency to want to clutter up the store with all these signs, too much product on fixtures and spreading brands all over the departments so customers have to walk all over the place trying to find brands. I think St.John's Bay is in three different places and Big and Tall Men's has product in four different places. Is that really what customers meant when they complained they didn't like the "shop concept"? They prefer being lead on a treasure hunt to locate their favorite brands or sizes? Weird.

Our remodel/updates are already complete and it seems to be a mix of the shop concept and the "old ways". The changing of the guard happened right in the middle of our updates/remodel so I think they made some sudden decisions and reclaimed the under construction area and turned it into what whatever they could think of. Our area already had the huge service desk so instead of giving that area to who the original idea had it for, we get this huge fancy cabinet with new registers. It looks great, but right now it is underutilized because we don't staff that area and a wall separates that area from where we usually work. We can't see a thing over there.

Our Home department's sales gains continue going up, too, but it definitely was not due to couches and toasters! They do sell a LOT of draperies here though.
