CPS officials have no comment?? That is so disturbing. Why not admit that they were WRONG in that situation? And WHY are there parents like me who have never harmed their children EVER getting CPS called to investigate because someone suspects that their child is being abused? How does that make sense? Someone please explain that to me.

The cps system is too messed up already! They don't care about kids, they care about getting paid. Read the article "The FIA Game" written by Janet Fredrickson, an attorney in Dearborn, MI. They stalk low-income families that are supposedly "high-risk" and take kids away from parents who are doing everything they can but just need a little help or guidance, and leave kids with crazy people who have no business leaving the hospital with a baby. It's cases like this that really make my blood boil. I just discussed this with a worker yesterday--when things are going well and no kids have been hurt recently, cps gets more lenient, but when a case like this happens, they tighten down and start harassing families and yanking kids. It's sickening, and it's horrible trying to deal with some of those cps people! I'd love to do an interview with news 8 on this topic, as I have a long history of being harassed by cps, but fear more issues with them in return...

1- Cps NEVER admits they are wrong. Never.
Why? Because they have the greatest lawyers in the state. The Michigan Attorney General's Office. Just like insurance company lawyers, the manta is "no comment" or Deny...Deny...Deny.

2- The reason parents like you have Cps called is there are people who think they can do your job better, but they don't want screwed up abused/neglected foster kids who have been beaten, raped or tortured. They would rather have your kid who is less trouble.

There is a HUGE market for children like yours. Not so much for children like the killer mom, prostitute drug addict.

That's my explanation. But you should probably listen to the social workers tell it. They are the professionals.

I think the whole system needs an overhaul.

My sister left her family for drugs ,went to rehab, met a drunk, had a baby, all 4 of her other kids got taken from dad and her, and still she has her kids.
She has 5 kids now that have been in the system for about 5-6 years. Why are they letting this go on. The dad is still using ,the mom is unable to really stably care for her kids, and the kids are suffering all for the sake of family.
Do they not realize that this family is totally screwed and will never be able to be normal again? My God why not let the kids get adopted and have a chance at a decent life?

Manpower! The social workers are over worked and underpaid. They must make the best use of their adoption advocacy time.

That means getting kids adopted quickly to those people who are on the list to adopt. Those people who tell the workers what "type" of kids they want to adopt. Kids just the opposite of your sisters.

Those go the Tim and Lisa Holland.

You know with your name it brought me to another point. My sister hid this from all of us in her family because she was ashamed. The sad thing is that we would have gladly helped her with the kids and gotten them the help they needed if she would have just said "Hey, I have a problem." It makes me sick because she rants and raves that no one in her family has helped but by the time any one knew what was going on they had already taken the kids.

And yes I agree with you there they probably would give them to someone like Tim and Lisa Holland.

With our unemployment rates raising by the day here in Michigan wouldn't you think they would start training people to help with an agency that is so over-whelmed? No. Let's let the kids suffer. How sickening that those in the position to help a child that is hurting do nothing.

A child would have to be in imminent danger before I would even consider calling CPS because I am only too familiar with their tactics and practices. I wouldn't wish one of their "investigations" on my worst enemy. People complain about the lack of accountibility in much of our society, but it is at it's worst when it concerns CPS.

oh give me a break, its always how bad her childhood was. Given she was a drug abuse, prostite, in other words a piece of crap. Why didnt these people who she came to visit with her new baby call someone then??????? They can blab now. She should be put away for life and sterilized. No excuses for what she did, abuse in ones childhood is just an excuse, I know first hand, I could write my own book and I never abused anyone. Stop the excuses.

I do agree with you on those points. I too was abused at the hands of adults in my life and have never once abused anyone or anything.
People make their own decisions and more and more we are seeing them make excuses for it which is truly sickening.
But then again, if CPS was involved and took the rights of this womans other 2 kids away why did they not take this one at birth? The mother is at fault but they CPS is also accountable. They should have taken the baby when it was born.

Ha! Oddly it's imminent danger that this baby was in.

Besides that, once an accusation of child abuse/neglect is made on someone and an investigation is opened, the parents are entered into a taxpayer funded central registry. Innocent or guilty. Just as this woman was.

So what was the CPS investigation outcome? "NO COMMENT"!!

Yet spare no expense in tv advertising prompting people to call cps and remain anonymous. They obviously aren't as overworked and underpaid as they would like us to believe, no?

If it was the same county, there's no excuse.
If it was a different county, it only proves that we need legislation to make people get off their butts and do their job.

Intercounty and interagency cooperation MUST be legislated.

so pretty much it is not the responsibility of CPS workers to seek out problems. people need to call and tell about problems no matter how big or small they might be. if a call is placed enough times no matter how small the matter may seem they will investige.
what happens in an investigation is that they look at the household and the people with in it and see if there is any way that they can fix it by using services toward the families, or if not parent rights may and probably will be terminated

No bias here. How do they 'stalk' low income families? I believe nearly all CPS referrals are called in and not self initiated. In my profession I've dealt with hundreds of CPS referrals and I'd say a small percentage fall into the "parents doing everything they can and need a little help and guidance".

I'm sure the CPS people are more horrified dealing with some of these parents as well.

I think that most citizens would be shocked to see how so many parent(s) treat their children. But hey.. instead of blaming poor parents lets blame CPS!

I'd say it's at its worst when it comes to parents taking responsibility.

That is quite a distrubing video and it makes sense to me. I know there are valid cases where CPS should be involved but many are not. Like custody cases where a mother/father will call CPS just because they are bitter and wish to make the others life h*ll. I have seen it first hand years ago in the late 90's a father basically wasted CPS case workers time with reports of abuse. They never removed the child and they finally stop taking the fathers calls. But only after over a dozen visits to the home. How many children that were really abused fell through the system while they invistigated fake charges?

Just a clarification: DHS CPS cannot remove children from a home without the support of and a pick up order from Family Court. And Family Court will not authorize removal without a preponderance of evidence that a child is at imminent risk of harm in their biological home and that there are no interventions available to reduce that risk. Risk can be very hard to prove and it is ultimately difficult for CPS to provide needed evidence (i.e. past abuse does not warrant high current risk); and there currently is a strong push to keep children out of the foster care system.
It is too easy to lay all the blame on an overtaxed and ill-equipped system (which is admittedly broken). But what about parental responsibility for admitting the need for help? What about the extended family? What about the hospital? The neighbors? The friends? The children's doctors and teachers? Everyone who touches the life of a child has a responsibility to nurture and protect that child. I guess it is feels better and is easier to take no personal responsibility but rather waste time and energy blaming an easy target...
