Attracting bluebirds

Spring is fast approaching and Bluebirds are becoming somewhat common again with the diminishing of the pesky English sparrow. Both of these species vie with one another for nesting cavities in trees or manmade nesting boxes and spring is an ideal time to attract these beautiful insect-eating colorful birds.

What is required is a large open space away from trees. Large backyards are fine, fields even better. Bluebirds require a 1 hole 6 up from the 4 - square floor. The box should be on a pole or pipe no higher than 6 feet from the ground.

To find perfect plans log on to Bluebirding Forum or Bluebird Nesting Boxes, or check your library for bluebird nesting box plans. Good luck!
