Maybe the people should not j walk. Cross and the green, not in-between. How may of the above accidents happend in a cross walk? There are at least four other outstanding hit-run crimes that have not been solved:
1) The death of a woman crossing a street in Inwood on November 21, 2008.
2) The death of a man crossing North Main Street, Freeport, in the early hours of January 8, 2008.
3) The death of a woman crossing Covert Avenue, just south of the tracks in New Hyde Park, December 23, 2007.
4) The death of a woman crossing Grand Avenue, Baldwin, just south of Sunrise Highway, February 8, 2007.
I'm glad they got Kohler, but the killers in these cases may still be at large.

So what's the deal with this drunk driving thing where the social value of the victim determines what the charge is? This guy gets reckless driving while the other guy who killed the cop is going to be charged with murder?

You know something...I have to agree with you. I used to think that it was wrong to have the death penalty and I thought it was ok to have bars, alcohol etc. Since I have gotten up there in years, I have noticed that usually when something really bad happens ie; domestic violence, murders, hit and run drivers, car crashes with injuries and fatalities, you notice that someone either was abusing alcohol or drugs. Not all the time but a good majority of these crimes do have some type of drug or alcohol abuse behind it. I believe a lot of this stuff would not happen if people were not drugging and/or drinking. Look at the divorce rate - Almost every family that I know who has suffered through divorce has had some type of drinking/drugs (even legal drugs) going on prior to the divorce. It leads people to do things they would not normally do such as; cheating, driving drunk, hit and runs, domestic violence etc. So I tend to agree with you, good comments for thought!

HOW ABOUT READING THE HEADLINE FOR STARTERS!

I drove past the scene no more than 30 seconds after it happened. I could see how the poor victim was knocked clearly out of his shoes, which lay a good 30 or 40 feet away from him. There isn't punishment enough for this lowlife habitual drunk. This creep has numerous prior DWI's & leaving the scene of accidents. This is like the guys 10th strike, not 3rd. Lock his drunk ass up forever and let the jail toughs use his anus as an amusement park!
