I am a long time labor market analyst. Maybe it was Carl Field's faith that moved me or just the waste of so much talent in a country so disparate for ideas, innovation and humane management. Over the years I have reviewed and assessed behaviors that lead to better paying employment far more often than the "Wait and Apply" methods of decades ago. Carl is doing all the right things for the 20th century labor market. I would lv to chat with him about practical steps that work. My heart goes out to Carl and his family. My wish is that I were a little closer to Plainsboro, New Jersey. My joy is that we share the same God. Congratulations Soledad and Michelle. Great reporting!!!

Something is wrong with this picture. What a waste of human talent, experience and potential!

Because he was laid off after age 55, Mr. Fields is eligible to access his 401k without early withdrawal penalty. He will have to pay taxes, but no penalty. These assets could then be annuitized to provide an income to subsidize his unemployment benefits. He needs to discuss his retirement benefits (if he did not receive a severence that included a LSO)with his former employer. He may be eligible for immediate pension benefits. Many firms allow early retirement as early as age 55. You may, however be penalized as much as 5% for each year you are under NRA (normal retirement age) which is usually age 65. He will be able to access early SSA benefits (Social Security) at age 62.

I hope Mr. Fields can re-market himself as a consultant. With his experience, I believe he has a bright future in the new health care reform environment by bundling benefits packages for foward-thinking providers.

I join him in believing God can open doors for him that no one can close. Stay strong and keep the faith.
