Am I the only one who understood abc's comment? "Did you work for them (in the past) or do you work for them (currently)?" It's not excluding other alternatives, like the option that you never worked for them at all.
Anyway, if the police department ever runs into problems scheduling those shifts, they should try a shift scheduling software package, like EZShift ( http://www.ezshift.com ). With such a software package, they could simply input rules about the shifts themselves (such as how much time must pas between the end of one person's shift and the beginning of his next shift) and characteristics about the individual cops (such as number of years of experience), then click a button and within minutes have an error-free schedule that takes into account those rules and characteristics, as well as the individual employees' shift preferences. Shift scheduling software like EZShift can also be used to communicate between the shift manager and his employees, allowing them to transmit information regarding shift preferences, schedules and last-minute changes over the system. Click the link for more information on what shift scheduling software can do for your police department.
