Well, did the roommate broadcast the video of a hetero encounter? No, he broadcast a gay encounter. I would call that bias, and a hate crime. He probably thought it was funny, but look what he caused. It's not ok to mess with people's lives like that.

Keep in mind that in NJ, kids going to college directly out of high school could still be 17 at this time of year. The gay man/boy's hookup was supposed to be with an "older man," which might have been late 20s (I do not known, and the news didn't say). From the perspective of the camera-happy roommate, he might have been documenting a case of statutory rape. There is about a 1 in 4 chance that this is true, without knowing more facts, and even the roommate would not necessarily know those facts.

There is also the disruption to one's personal life. The roommate was presumably there to study. It's his room, too. If the gay man/boy already had a gay hookup in his first month at Rutgers, what do you think are the odds that he'd have a procession of them throughout the year, constantly disrupting the roommate's ability to study and sleep in his own dorm room? Exactly the same would apply if it had been (say) a basketball player with a constant procession of cheerleaders. Sexual orientation is secondary. Finally, if the roommate requested a re-assignment, what do you think are the odds that he would be labeled a homophobe and banned from dorms, maybe even kicked out of Rutgers, rather than re-assigned? Or visualize universities with co-ed dorm rooms (they exist) and being saddled with some feminist chick who believes that ALL men are rapists, including of course her roommate, you.

It was the roommate's bad luck that the gay man/boy was the excitable type. Tell me again how the kid managed to hook up with an older man, in a strange town, so quickly?

All this proves is that the military is right about excluding gays.
