Full story: Indianapolis Star

Convicted sex offenders on parole or on probation will again be under extra scrutiny this Halloween , with many in larger counties -- including Marion -- attending a mandatory meeting during trick-or-treat hours.

Why?

Stats show that molestation does not increase at halloween. They also show that most molestation occurs in the home, at the hands of a relative or acquaintance.

This is typical hysteria. If a parent accompanies a child, what could a molester do?

I think this would be fine if it targeted actual sexual predators, but the sex offender list is so broad you end up getting people who peed in some bushes stuck in this meeting (no joke there, it is considered indecent exposure in Indiana to pee in bushes, regardless of if you expose yourself to anyone, and gets you on the offender list).

Shame that a night we old school kids used to look forward to so much, has turned into a predatory picnic, or a blown out of proportion witch hunt....(depending on your take).

Ah you are correct sir, glad to see they've changed it. When they first kicked off the registry in IN there were quite a few offenses on there that should not have been, including indecent exposure. Now it looks like they've got it whittled down to more serious offenses only. Good on 'em.

And to the guy claiming it is revisionist to claim gays were targeted in the holocaust, you're a fool. They were considered deviants and rounded up.

I agree. Such good memories I have of going trick-or-treating back in the mid and late 1960s and early 70s. We kids didn't worry about predators back then. We knew not to go inside people's houses and such. But paranoia does strike deep. If I had a primary school age kid today, I would definitely be out with them, not letting them go by themselves like we did back in the day...

Here's my take.
Either sex offenders can be rehabilitated, or they can't.
It seems like every story about a child molested or murdered involves a convicted sex offender.
If these deviants really are that dangerous (and I believe they are), then don't let them out of prison.
Anyone convicted of any type of abuse against a child, sexual or otherwise, should serve a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole, then we wouldn't have to have special meetings, and special websites to track these sick f**ks.

Eh too expensive. I still say that, if someone can be irrefutably proven to have molested a child, take 'em out back, bill the family for the bullet.

Every sex offender, once registered, should have a mandatory operation to render them sexless. After serving time, release them and you wouldn't have to worry about them.

Oh that evil multiculturalism, what a terrible vice!!! We should all bottle ourselves up in our own little worlds, and keep out that scary "real-life" outside!
