I'm not often out that way, but since a lot of stores on the west side of Indy have been moving further out towards the sprawl absorbing Avon and Plainfield, and you have to drive 15 miles from downtown to shop, I've passed this place a few times, and I've always intended to stop there sometime.
Looks like its now or never. You get the culture you deserve, Indy. |

Fond memories of those great tenderloin sandwiches. Thank you Mr. Piercy for those memories.

Best breakfast I've ever had!

Great place to eat! Most people drive right by to the numerous franchise boxes with no character or history. Their loss. Ray is a great person who has helped out a lot of people and he went NON SMOKING long before it was politically correct.
Thanks Ray God speed |

It will probally end up like Al Green's Did torn down for a car lot of a Mexican Restaurant after we give an illegal a free business grant,
We should keep these American Icons they are a part of everyones past and all thier child hood memories. |

Ireally hate to see this place go it is one of akind so pleasent to eat at and the tenderloin is the best i can only hope some one will keep it going.

I've lived here for 24 years and The Diner has always been that classic place with down home food.
It will be missed. Surely someone will buy the building, and move it to a different location, and refurbish it. The building itself is a part of classic Americana that I am sure will be worth something to somebody. If you Google "moving a diner" it is actually done quite a bit and costs the owners around $20,000 to move them thousands of miles. I would be very surprised if she'll be destroyed. |

These were some of the best tenderloins in town with some of the best ambiance in town. Sorry to see it go!

Another loss....maybe we can have a Taco Bell! WOW!!!
|
||||
|
Ahh... Sara and I ate there sometime in '92 or '93. I miss Sara.

This is a great resturant, which should be a National Landmark. I beg anyone who purchaces the land PLEASE keep the diner alive!!! There are so few left...

I applaud your optimism but buildings with architectural or sentimental value are lost every day. Personally I would be shocked if this structure is saved. I hope you are right but I would get ready for a new Wendy's or KFC.

paulee - i don't want to see this torn down either (and am sad about past history being torn down), but the fact that an "illegal" tore al green's down has to be the dumbest statement i've heard in awhile. older white men (which i am) are responsible for thousands of demolitions of our historic buildings, etc. so you're lame argument does not hold up. |

The community leadership of Plainfield needs to step up ASAP and preserve the Diner. Things like that need to be kept going, even if ownership can't do it anymore. Look at what happened to Miller's in Colfax (gone) and Sarge Oak in Lafayette (an OK restaurant that only preserved the name of a formerly world renowned steakhouse). Get goin', folks!

It's a shame that independent, small-town restaurants and businesses have to succumb to closing down because of massive corporation competition. Plainfield and Avon have become such sell-out towns, there's nothing original about them anymore! What's even more depressing is seeing smaller towns selling out just to "keep up with the Joneses". Mooresville, for example. It still has a small-town feel, but as soon as you get on the outskirts, it's a cold, boxy, cookie-cutter house feel.
I am sorry for Mr. Piercy's health conditions, I wish him the best. I do hope for the best with the restaurant, in that someone buys it and brings it back to life. |

God love my uncle Ray and his beloved diner. Our family would have our Easter dinner every year at the Diner and now it will never be the same. From fond memories of the numerous tenderloins consumed to the ageless smile of his wife Nona-Bell to newer memories with my daughters, The Diner was, is, and always will be a special place for myself & my family.
Uncle Ray is living testament to the strength that God bestows upon us. From the loss of his son to the loss of his wife to his battle with cancer, Uncle Ray has kept the faith, kepth his sense of humor, and has remained true to himself and our family. We love you Uncle Ray and thank you so much for the many, many fond memories we have had at The Diner. She has treated us well!!! God bless and God speed, Uncle Ray. Look forward to seeing you at Christmas!!! |

“Oh George, not the livestock.” Since: Jul 07
Indy ISP: Indianapolis, IN |
Because as we know, they're ALL illegals, right? |
|||
It was probably the non-smoking policy that put him out. I ate there everyday for 6 years Monday thru Friday and everyone smoked and it was packed, no pun intended. |
||||
|
Even though it's been years since I've eaten at the Diner, I've always had fond memories. May have to make a trip out there Saturday!
|
||||
|
It's a shame that we have to keep losing the historic places that many have never really experienced. I don't get down to that area that often but can say that I did have great pleasure in eating there once. It will sorely be missed by the community.
