City, Neighbors Unite Against Prison Move

City and neighborhood leaders are speaking out against a plan to replace an east side prison with a work-release facility.

Look out Woodruff Place. The reason the DOC did not have a public meeting to discuss the move is because they don't care about what we think. We don't have enough money or status in the community to fight and they know it. To say silence about the moves was to prevent employees from finding out last is misleading. The DOC employees have known for months what is about to take place. What the Commissioners office wouldn't do was validate what we knew to relieve some of the anxiety and tension. Employees in this move are being treated no better than communites they serve. Some things may make sense on paper but the practicality, of what will be chaos, does not exist. IWP is designed for women not men in transiton. Space usage will be compromised and wasted. DOC is trying to dazzle with their foot work. Mitch the arrogant gov is in the lead. All of the community opposition in the area will only filter through Daniels and Buss ears. We are all in for a long bumpy ride.

Interesting. What move is happening? You are right in that the DOC operates in a world of silence, the less you know, the more they gain. To their administration, citizens are not treated any different than inmates (because they are all potential guests, including the guards).

There is a reason they don't hire the best and the brightest. Ignorance is bliss. Odds are the guards had an inkling of what was going on, but only the higher ups knew the whole picture.

You have to use the Freedom of Information Act to get the information you want. You can't expect them to publicly say anything voluntarily. If you ask nicely they will say "we can't tell you, it might aid an inmate in escaping" or some BS like that.
