1st we waste money on a study for Rt126/Essington interchange, now we are going to study how Plainfield will benefit from a wind turbine. I do not see any farmland available that has not been developed in this town.

How attractive would it be to have a giant red strobe blinking above your house along with constant humm. Yeah this is going to bring property values DOWN... WAY DOWN....

What the fudge is the village committee thinking about.

How about you fix RT59, bring in more businesses, expand 143rd street, put up traffic lights...

I might as well park my trailer, car, whatever in the backyard once the turbine is installed.

anything that will help bring down the high cost of energy has to be considered as a benefit to the community.Wind is a clean renewable source that will help all lower their utility burden .

Can it be any worse than the humm of all the high tension power lines? Plainfield still has plenty of land. Just go to Springbank, Hidden River, Playa Vista, etc, I could go on but why? There is land a pleanty. Plainfield is on the verge of a major crisis. Property values are already WAY DOWN. There is a real danger of becoming a ghost town more so than we already are.

The sky is falling, If wind energy has any benefit it's worth looking into.

we are reaching for the sky here... I can list dozens for things that need real time attention.
How about we clean up the critical needs before dreaming up new solutions...

By the way Carlito, how much land do you need around a commercial turbine to mask its noise/light pollution? This is not DeKalb where you have 100s of acres available away from population.
Also, I disagree with you EZFella... it would benefit the village, not the people of Plainfield.
How many wind turbines would village of PLainfield need to impact some kind of savings on all residents?

http://www.awea.org/faq/rsdntqa.html
An 80- to 120-foot residential tower is usually supplied along with the wind turbine. Towers this tall are necessary to raise the wind turbine above turbulence generated by obstacles on the ground and trees. That is for residential turbine.
The wind system will usually recoup its investment through utility savings within six to 15 years and after that the electricity it produces will be virtually free.(as long the system does not break down).

How much does a wind system cost?

A small turbine can cost anywhere from $6,000 to $22,000 installed, depending upon size, application and service agreements with the manufacturer.

http://www.gloucestertimes.com/local/x7399501...
Olson said Meridian Associates has estimated Rockport could construct a wind turbine by 2014 at a total cost of approximately $4.2 million. OUCH!!

Also, how are you going to attract new residential development to Plainfield when people are going to get a nice wind turbine for their noise/light pollution?

This seems like a political tactic from someone in the village. Lets come up with crap that looks good now, but other people are left dealing with 10 years down the road when "village officials" retire and move on to other places....

Unless... we are committed to block of bunch of farmland for renewable energy and forget about future residential property taxes from it....
What is better for the village?

Food for thought....

interesting to read that you need to be 1/2 mile away from Wind Turbine to be not effected by it...

Did you think people wouldn't read the article and only read your qoute? The article is cautious but supports it. You fail to mention grants or leasing when you mention the 4.2 mil. do you believe everyone is stupid enough to believe your spin?

How are you going to attract new residential development??????????

That era is dead. Get it through your head, there will be no new residential development in Plainfield or anywhere else for that matter for the next 10+ years. There is already an over supply of housing, why would you worry about attracting more?

Plainfield needs to lower taxes and create jobs. The housing boom is over. It would be nice to have a place known for more than tornados and foreclsures

Great argument, but where is the influx of new population going to live in next 10 years? I am assuming that you believe that for every child born, someone dies? I would have to disagree with that theory. Housing boom is a cycle, it will be back, just like stock market.

I am still seeing development in Plainfield, are you locked in a box? Yes, I agree that this is no house a day in Plainfield, but the houses are selling for ridiculous prices, and once the inventory dries up, in next 5 years or so, what is going to happen? Developers will jack up prices again...

My point is: single turbine will do jack for city of Plainfield, maybe provide power to Carlito's house along with few village officials. To see the difference in energy savings, you need a wind turbine farm.

Maybe the city of Plainfield can convert the land reserved for the sports complex along Ridge road into the farm since they have failed to pass resolution to have people of Plainfield pay for the stupid sports arena.

By the way, new residents will bring new businesses, if you do not believe that Plainfield will expand, you are stuck with what we have. Is this our future?

The population is going down, not up. Inventory dry up, 5 years? I wish I had your crystal ball but there are no signs that that will happen. There is a 2nd wave of foreclosures coming. This is the 2nd of 3 waves of the current supply. That doesn't even include all of the houses that are short sales which dominate the current market. Most of those houses will not sell making them the 4th and maybe 5th wave. Your statements show you have no understanding of the current market or the problems that are ahead.

I don't live in a box, where is this development at? Developers jack of the prices in the future????? The ones who didn't go out of business are trying to sell what they have to get the hell out. There will be no influx over the next 10 years. What you will see is people gravitate back toward the city and surrounding suburbs for smaller more affordable houses with single digit taxes. People didn't realize that 3000sq ft dream house came with a $500 gas bill to heat the place. The population growth in Plainfield is DEAD. Now what?

The developers will answer that demand by building smaller houses with a smaller price tag. However it isn't a deal because you are paying less but getting less. The cost per sq ft is still the same. You won't see a piece of brick on the structure. These cheap houses will only further bring property values down. How would you have liked to have paid 500,000 for a house have a shack across the street from you?

Would you rather live in one of these poorly built houses or get a solid all brick house with plaster walls in the city or surrounding area?????? The city of Chicago will see an influx in population, not Plainfield

So Trustee Fay is proposing that Village Government purchase a wind energy supply and sell it to the public?

Is he running as a Democrat for Trustee next round? He may as well!
