PLAINFIELD -- Over the last year, hundreds of people have combed farm fields and forest preserves searching unsuccessfully for missing Plainfield mom Lisa Stebic.

And since traditional detective work has failed to turn up any promising leads on her whereabouts, Plainfield police are taking a decidedly nontraditional approach.

For about two months, investigators have been working with a psychic detective to find Lisa Stebic.

Stebic vanished from her Plainfield home April 30, 2007. No trace of her has been found.

In July 2007, Plainfield police named her husband, Craig Stebic, a person of interest in her disappearance. Stebic has not been charged in connection with the case.
'Owe it to family'
Police Chief Don Bennett said they are willing to continue working with the psychic because the information she provides has been more specific than tips they have received from other clairvoyants.

Investigators have also been able to verify that much of the information she has given them is accurate, he said.

"I have not, in the past, had a lot of faith in psychics," Bennett said. "However, at the same time I feel we as a law enforcement agency owe it to the family to do everything possible to find a resolution to this case.

"We're willing to do whatever it takes to find Lisa," he said.

Investigators heard about the California-based psychic from other police agencies. The woman, who has also worked with the FBI, has successfully found missing people for other police departments.

Investigators gave the woman some of Lisa's life history, and she gave them several visions. One vision led them to a forest preserve in the Chicago area that they searched with a cadaver dog. They did not find Lisa's body.

"The short-term experience has been favorable," Bennett said. He would not say what information the psychic has provided.
Not first on case
This may be the first extended contact police have had with a psychic on the Stebic case, but it's not the first time psychics have been involved in the search.

A psychic led several of Lisa's friends to Silver Springs State Park in Yorkville in June 2007. They found bones where the psychic said they would be, but the remains were from a deer.

On May 12, 2007, during a massive hunt for Lisa in Plainfield, one search party found the body of an elderly man in a field near Aux Sable Grove Cemetery in Kendall County.

That group hadn't checked in with search organizers, but based their search site on advice from a psychic, who told them to look for a body near a cemetery.

Lisa's family has received numerous tips from psychics. Many of the tips were too vague to follow up, but they passed all of them on to police anyway.

Melanie Greenberg, a spokeswoman for Lisa's family, said she would keep an open mind.

"If psychics are real, I know that Lisa probably would try to reach out that way. Because she really believed in it," Greenberg said.

"I just know (Plainfield police) are still trying so hard, every way they can," she said. "I definitely don't get the feeling like this is a cold case."

I don't know what to say....wow, THAT'S a first!!!! Should I laugh or cry that the police have now resorted to a psychic on this case. Don't they have anything else to go on??? Well, I don't know if I believe in any of that hocus pocus, so I'll just reserve judgement (for once).

PM, in my expirience, psychics have been useful, most in missing children cases. It may have been extremly useful in the earlier stages of the investigation....how ever, as is the history the first 24 hours are the most important....cases older, much older than Lisas are still resulting in convictions. This will find the same end. I feel strongly about this.

The psychic I'd not a last resort, just another tool to help connect the dots and pull the pieces of what they do have together.

I so undestand how difficult it is to get what a psychic can offer....It took a looooooong while for me to understand. But what the heck, if it works, dont fix it. Right?

Well, ok....as long as it's NOT the last resort, I feel better. Guess it can't hurt....unless, it uses up resources better spent on "REAL" leads.

At this point what have they got to lose? There are psychics who have successfully led police to missing people in the past, so why not give it a shot? Its been over a year and we know nothing more than we did the day she went missing... if someone could lead the poice to where she is and get to the bottom of it all, I say go for it

Who could it be? Noreen Reiner? No, she lives in Virginia. Michelle Whitedove? Nope, Florida. Carol Pate? Nope again, she's in Arkansas. Sylvia Browne, perhaps? She is in Campbell, California....but I doubt it is her. Annette Martin? Hmmm....she just happens to also be out of Campbell, CA. She is a well-respected psychic detective who has worked with law enforcement.

I will guess....Annette Martin.

The latest posted information indicates Noreen Renier could not tell the difference between rats blood and human blood. So why would her psychic ability be worth much in locating this girl? See http://www.amindformurder.com/NoreenRenier.ht...
