portillios will never come to plainfield.. they were chased out by village officals who were protecting nabbys.. plus i doubt that no franchise food place would go there because of the politics in plainfield. maybe it will become a gay bar.

it will be a dental office, not a restauarant or even a retailer. village officials thought that a faceless professional office would be a great asset at this prime location. a portillo's??? geez fellow topix posters, have you listened to the wisdom of our elected leaders lately? expect it to look like an old applebee's with a dental office inside. our leaders have given us another prosperous and progressive example of their village with a vision towards the future...

This also results in Plainfield residents going into Naperville to shop, eat etc.. Not much to choose from here so I guess we are helping Naperville's restaurants and businesses. Just being honest.

Yep good ol Plainfield, either a dentist office, medical building, or better yet another bank. Oh speaking of banks look for several more to pop up in the coming months...why? they pay propert taxes that's why. Oh and the article in the Sun today saying the village is looking to build more homes only in the 200K-350K...great vision there, cheapen the village, attract more little village families and not learn the lesson about depending on rooftops to support you. Hey let's build cheap shit homes so we can collect more taxes. I honestly hate this place with all my heart. Oh and smile for the new red light cameras, yet another blind tax brought to you by Chief Bennet, Village board member Bennet, and Strets and Sans mananger Bennet. Is there a pattern to all this?

Unbelievable. When we waste rt. 59 frontage on businesses that bring in ZERO sales tax dollars our property taxes remain high. As someone else said, Portillo's or something like that would be the way to go! I'll continue to go out of Plainfield for shopping and dining. Very sad indeed.

I go to Oswego for my dining and shopping needs.

Portillo's, Dick's Sporting Good's, Best Buy, Lowes.

What more does a guy need.

Disappointing to see how fast other towns are developing and bringing in new business - Oswego, Shorewood - what is going on in Plainfield? I whole lot of empty store fronts and closed down businesses - oh yeah old banks too....

How long have you people been residents? The village has brought numerous business and shopping opportunities that were only dreamed of years ago. I've lived here since 1960. Back then Joliet, Crest Hill, and Aurora got our tax dollars. Quit your random complaining and spend your money here so the tax dollars stay close.
My kids have moved back here, because the job situation is far better here than many other places in the US. Although, I feel that most developers got off easy as far as true investment in the town. They took shortcuts that led to traffic congestion and caused flooding due to failure to provide adequate drainage that the farmland used to absorb. This is a much more livable city than it could be (population growth would have happened anyway). Most of these problems are being addressed, albeit slower than they should be rectified.
Many long for the good old "Mayberry" days of Plainfield, but I'm thankful for the growth we've had that makes it possible to shop, work and live here. The storefronts will be filled. The economic problems have stopped many from leasing and renting their locations, but this too shall pass.

That is EXACTLY my point... There is no where to eat or shop in Plainfield... Not random complaining. Stating the facts. Would LIKE to keep the tax dollars in Plainfield. I am sure you have seen progress since 1960 - good grief - what community hasn't.. Would like to see more offerings for the RESIDENTS of Plainfield to SHOP and spend in Plainfield.

P.S. Tell me how the job situation in PLAINFIELD is so amazing. Didn't you see the recent results of how many residents commute because they chose to live in a town where there are no jobs?.....

A drive up or down Rt 59 will show you dozens of fast food places restaurants that didn't exist five or ten years ago. Downtown has a collection of restaurants, for family dining try Nick's Cozy Corner, or Larry's Diner. so, I really don't get your question.
The job situation is good in the fact that there alot of service jobs, not really high paying, but people are living and paying rents and mortgages with them. The job market does seem skewed to younger people, though. Plainfield is mostly families ans older people, due to limited apartments available (as opposed to say, Bolingbrook or Joliet) Even retail jobs are hard in other places, but Plainfield with slightly fewer late teen to early 30's residents, has a number of retail jobs, and they are hiring. My son and his girlfriend moved here from the Romeoville area, and promptly (within days) found two jobs each. This is somewhat anecdotal, but all the younger people I know, who want jobs, have found them. Our manufacturing sector has been hit, but as the recent success in the financial sector begins to disseminate, I think you'll see some improvement.

I like your positive outlook - I really do! For the time being, it doesn't do much that there are service jobs in Plainfield for teenagers. I will wait and be patient. I was shocked when I saw all the development further down 59 in areas like Shorewood - new businesses/restaurants, stores LIKE CRAZY despite the economic climate. I again, appreciate the positive, forward thinking outlook and hope you are right!!!

Daily Horoscope for December 24

Pisces

Although you're busy putting the finishing touches to your Christmas preparations, you'll also have to pay attention to someone who's feeling neglected or unloved. Luckily, it won't take much to make this person feel better, so a big hug or a little consideration might do the trick. You should also bear in mind that they may be feeling nostalgic or sad about the past.
