HORSES DO NOT RUN IN "PACKS" !!
Good Folk one and all:
As a resident of rural Socorro County NM, rancher, and lifelong Westerner I am embarrassed, chagrined, and apalled that a resident of this county would think that free-ranging horses move through the landscape in a pack, let alone commit such drivel to print. A bunch of horses live in a herd,or in some cases a band not a pack.....your smokes come in a pack!
In the Southwest a herd of riding horses was and is called a REMUDA, while a band of mares is called a MANADA. The original Magdalena Mountain Mail, as opposed to the current Mountain Mail would not have made the mistake.
We are no better than feral dogs when we think wild horses live in packs.

The term "pack" in the article by Ben Moffett, a San Antonio native, is a direct quote by those interviewed in the story (Cindy King and others), not by the Mountain Mail writer.
When Moffett referred to the horses in his article he used the term "herd."
Any outrage should be directed at those who are quoted, and not the writer, who did, in fact, use the correct term.
Also, Moffett was correct in using the term "gaggle" in describing a group of photographers.
Of course there are some that believe photographers are simply nothing more than a pack of feral dogs.
