Hey! I was recently offered a new job in Albuquerque. I am a single Mom with two teenage boys. I need some guidance on area to live and High Schools. I have been looking in the NW area but prices seem to be higher there to rent. Suggestions??? Please???

The west side is cheaper but the commute can be rough. Try the NE heights. Closer to the mountains is more expensive but the neighborhoods tend to be better

Try the far North Valley. It is very rustic, yet minutes away from everything. The further north you go the more rural it is, but the scenery is beautiful. You don't have neighbors that can look into your backyard. Lots of parks and open space for your boys, hiking and biking trails. The average 3 bedroom house rents for around $1200 monthly.

Be careful in any part of the north valley, there are pockets of gangs that tend to venture out into the nicer neighborhoods to support their habits. Also, the Second Street area is very close to the tracks and some unfavorable characters hang around the tracks. Speaking from some bad experiences I've had to deal with.

There is crime every where in Albuquerque. I agree though that if you go South of Montano the crime rate increases. That is why I suggested far North Valley. Depending where off of Second street you live as to what type of people you get wandering through a neighborhood.

Rio Rancho is crowded but the schools are good. Might be worth it to rent, but don't know your circumstances. Good to know the town if you can afford the time to find your "roots". Pretty much everything is obvious when it comes to where you are comfortable.

Can always look at Albuquerque TV stations for the latest hair-raising news. KRQE, KOAT, KOB to name a few.

Also depends on where your job is and the commute. Might ask the HR person at the place you got your job, or people there for feedback.
