I would be one of the first to support anything to resolve this terrible crime, however, when dollars are tight and getting tighter, I do question this expenditure. Granted the knowledge has to be out there, but why would we have to hire a consulting firm (33% of the cost) to do this. The basic media, ie, newspapers, TV and radio would be the logical venues for getting the information out there and it doesn't take a $50,000 contract to figure that out. I think Ms Deines needs some remedial exposure to mass communications, such as Commo 101!

It would seem the radio & television station would do this as part of their community service programs. We (the state)wouldn't save much but every little bit helps.

More hotline expenditures = more complaint reports.Fewer caseworkers= fewer investigations and resolutions.Any one else see the pathetic weakness of pretending to care about abused children for the Governors political benefit.Be nice to see if the consulting group, who is the real beneficiary was a contributor for the Governor,

"Deines said the state had "a hard hiring freeze," so she could not have used the money to bring aboard more caseworkers. She also said that the cost was small compared with millions invested over the years for a New Mexico hotline on drunken driving."

I agree with the posts above, but what struck me as appalling is that governmental bureaucratic mind set the we have to spend the money we get allocated or it is wasted. Just because she could not spend it on staff she felt she had to spend it on advertising. Why not save the money until you can spend it on staff.

The only solution: cut government revenues...they will spend what we give them on what ever... no matter what!

Agree! However The seizure of property from the criminals in question will be enough to pay for the expenditure.

Sadly, the news media outlets stopped offering free promotion of public service announcements a long time ago. At best the TV news will sometimes place something at 3AM. My questions is Who the heck is Zephyr Group? I am up by Placitas and they do not have a visible office here, and I could not find them in the phone book or online. Weird? The fee they received is 1/3 of the expenditure, usually the ad guys get 15% at the low end and up from there, average is about 22%.
