Ever wonder what the weather was in your area, like the rainfall or lots of other stuff - or the forecast? TMI for sure but pretty nifty none the less. I was actually able to find out how many inches of rain have fallen in my hood!

Select a station near your home from the "See all Weather Stations" link or enter your zip code, or maybe another state.

On a whim I ran into Surplus City today and picked up a first gen Minolta 70-210 f/4 "beer can" lens for $25! It was labeled "broken." The only thing wrong with it was a cracked UV filter. It even has the original reversible shade.

I tested it on my favorite body, my Maxxum 5000, and it is fine. No scratches to the glass on either end, no internal moisture, snappy aperture, perfection. This lens was made in '85, and *still* sells for over $200 when the glass is good and there is no moisture.

When I can afford a Sony Alpha DSLR (aiming for the SLTA65V body this Winter), my lenses will work flawlessly on it, and since Sony kept Minolta's in-body optical image stabilization, they'll be even better on one.

Looking for a few recommendations for local travel agents in Abq, someone you've used and were happy with their services. Both positive and negative comments would be appreciated. Not looking to create controversy, just to narrow down the local field somewhat.

Considering a Caribbean cruise sometime in the future so any comments on cruise lines + & - would be helpful too.

Will do. I went by Rio Grande Travel today to see what manner of literature they had so I could get better acquainted with cruises in general, several good larger brochures. They're CLIA certified (cruise line specialists). One thing they told me is they no longer deal with Carnaval Cruise lines, pretty much just Royal Caribbean & Celebrity. Apparently they've had poor results w/ Carnaval, and IIRC they are the ones with most of the cruise line problems. What I'm after is a total pkg where they arrange everything, air, ground etc, I just pay and that's it. Our first cruise and I don't want to shortchange us.

Ok, here it goes guys...She said they used an agency "BTS Cruise" and to ask for Karen. My niece said she was really great and tailored a package just for them. They went on Royal Caribbean an their ship was "Freedom of The Seas". She said it was smooth sailing all the way and the crew was wonderful. Be prepared to eat any thing you want at any time.

Evening, folks. Hope people are doing well. Wish I was, for that matter. Yet another case of pneumonia, but I'll survive. Still working the two jobs, and I just got into grad school for my Masters of Science in Mental Health Counseling, which I will be following with my PsyD. Needless to say, I'm in for a long ride.

I totally understand. I would hate to send my son and then they try to add on the extras when he is there. I have a friend on a cruise now, I will talk to her when she returns.

Hello friends! Seems like it's been forever since I've posted. I, me, the hermit, made the long trek with the family to Las Cruces (sp?) today for my son's ortho-surgeon appointment. It surprised me how much I miss being on the road. Of course, my bones are a bit ticked off right now. We'll see how it goes tomorrow. So, the most shocking thing is I found out my barely turned 13 year old gorilla boy weighs 190 POUNDS!!!!!!! I'm still stunned but pleased to know that he will get by for a while with just physical therapy. The really weird part is he's not fat. He's just a really solid packed tuna lol!

Anywho, I MISS YOU ALL! I really do and miss chatting with you.

I hope everyone is well, peaceful and happy.

Cruise Lines

It appears from my cursory reading that there are two lines best suited for the Caribbean, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity, although most others would probably be good too. Seems RC owns not only RC but Celebrity and a couple others as well. Celebrity is apparently the upper end of the two but more expensive whereas RC is a bit lower but bigger and less expensive. So for me, my choice would probably be Royal Caribbean(RC) because of the economics.

If you're interested, Rio Grande travel has some excellent brochures available free and when coupled with the internet (plus some great books from the library) I'm sure I can make a well informed decision. There are a ton of options, seriously, so a travel agent will be a MUST, no way around it. They don't charge you, they get a commission from the line they book you with. If you're a newbie like me, I strongly suggest you get an agent to do it ALL, all transpo etc, the entire pkg from alpha to omega. That's the limited assessment of this rookie at cruising.

Thank you for the info. Happy sailing!
