It's good if you're interested in the local news here in the foothills. It wouldn't replace the Sacramento Bee though.

The Sacramento Bee is a Liberal rag not worth the fifty cents it costs. You should know this GreenEyedLady. The moutain Democrat is more conservative but boy do they do a poor job of covering local news.I am privy to many local news stories through my work and The Mountain Democrat misses so much it seems like they aren't interested in what's really going on in the county. They should at least get some volunteers to monitor a police scanner and give them tips on important local news that they can then follow up on.The Sac Bee as much as I dislike them usually does a better job of covering El Dorado County than the Mountain Democrat. The average mountain Democrat fills it's pages with advertisements, letters to the editor, local high school sports and bone headed editorials. That paper needs some new blood because they are very lazy "journalists".

I agree with you 100%.

I don't like the Sac Bee, but you're right in saying they do cover more news.

You hit the nail of the head with the Mountain Democrat. That paper is filled with too much,"fluff" and they always fail to report the things that actually matter to us foothill residents.

I think the Mountain Democrat has incredible local news coverage. IF you think something should be in the paper, call them. They really cater to readers.

Their coverage beats any local paper in any of the communities in which I have ever lived.

Hey "Kristen",Your real name doesn't happen to be Michael Raffety or James Webb does it?This paper only has good coverage if you think that covering the local Independence Day parades is news worthy. That kind of stuff is great but if you think that you are being well informed about what's really going on in the county you are sadly mistaken. The El Dorado section of the Sac Bee is much more informative about what is happening up here.

Ha ha ha Tangent6.Those guys are absolutely creepy. That paper represents the worst of small town journalism.I tend to be on the conservative side but was still very shocked by a piece they published by Larry Weitzman that basically parroted all the internet lies circulating about Barrack Obama. There are plenty of reasons to want to keep Obama out of the Whitehouse but a "newspaper"should not stoop to that level. What an ammateurish smear attempt.Stick to the issues if you even know what they are Mr.Webb

I read that also and promptly canceled my subscription.I don't plan on voting for a Democrat at this point but for an editor to actually print the kind of BS presented by Larry Weitzman.Printing opinion is one thing but printing down right lies is unacceptable.

I always thought that the Mountain Democrat was a poor paper because it was a small town rag and they are typically just ten pages of advertisement that you pay 50 cents for.I recently came across an issue of the Mountain Democrat from 1966 and I was struck by how much better of a paper it was back then.More news, more pages, more in depth reporting, more events coverage and stories about local people and less slanted political hogwash. The paper now seems to fill it's pages with fluff.Aside from the four or so stories on the front page and advertising they seem to rely mostly on letters to the editor, obituaries and the list of DUI arrests to fill their pages. It's really not worth buying.

The Democrat is as small a town paper as it gets. No investigative reporting, no meaty coverage of things occurring in the county that have an impact on life in this county such as: murder rates, rise in drug addiction and the impact to the county, child abuse and the social-financial cost to the taxpayer. It tends to cover everyday event type news. It isn't progressive by any means. The democrat has a lame auto column (I've never read a bad review about a vehicle) The editorials are mostly political gossip and opinionated, while the letters to the editor seem to come from gossiping, complaining adults whom act like children.

Do you write letters to the editor of the Mountain Democrat when you aren't posting here? You need to get a different hobby.

i won't read it anymore. it was never worth the money. mostly junk. no news. the online version even weaker but i did utilize that until they started charging for it. now the only way to read the online version is to subscribe to the printed version. what kind of sense is that? if i subscribe to the printed version, why would i need the online version? you can't just get the online version so i refuse to read the mountain democrap anymore. i get better news coverage off topix

My wife went shopping for a new VW Toureg based on a glowing review on the vehicle by Larry Weitzman. It was a very expensive vehicle and my wife was really pushing for us to buy based on Weitzman's review and her yest drive.Well thankfully we checked the internet and Consumer Reports and found that the vehicle was definitely on the do not buy list.Very poor reliability, multiple mechanical probelems and very poor customer service by VW related to these issues.Obviously we made a different purchase.I looked at the review written by Weitzman that my wife had read.No mention of all the issues with this vehicle that were well known at the time of his article. His story read like he was simple copying it from the sales brochure. Is this what passes for journalism at the Mountain Democrat? How long are they going to continue doing such a disservice to the community?

You caught that huh? The Demo wouldn't have. Read the latest auto review.

FamilymanMark, every car reviewed is wonderful and magnificent. There isn't a bad car made in the planet. The same reviewer writes an editorial column. I feel ever so confident in the truthfulness and legitimacy of the editorial.

MT Demos: Great stuff for small brains and for people that don't have an opinion, but need one.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Sagittarius

Mercury turning retrograde in your house of finances carries a rather unseasonal message, because it's telling you to pay attention to your finances over the next few weeks. If you already know that you've overspent this month, you won't need to be told that a few economies are just around the corner. Get the facts straight and pay attention to the small print. You may also have to make some adjustments to an intimate relationship so it can move into another phase.
