1700 more jobs gone from Rochester. They will keep Goodman street open for 1 year then close that down and move it all to Mexico. Another 800 jobs gone next year. Stop these foreign companies from trashing American Companies. Where is Senator Schumer Schmuck. He only cares about those on welfare. Soon it will be all of America on welfare. The then financial collapse, America will be just like Detroit. No one gives a shit. The new America.

Yeah .. then the rest of teh businesses that are left behind will have to pay more to pay for ALL those public servents, working and retired.

Then ROchester will declare bankruptcy like Detroit.

I doubt the CEO and board are lamenting jobs lost in Rochester. The only thing they're thinking about is how they can return more money to the company's bottom line, and ultimately the stockholders.

If they can accomplish a task for less elsewhere, that is where the task is going.

It's not good for Rochester, or for the individuals that are getting dumped -- but it shouldn't come as a shock that the 1% will do whatever it takes to put daylight between themselves and the 99%. More money is the mantra.

Our liberal policies set by liars and thieves make the cost of doing business here too high, the successful are punished for being successful, our wealth is being redistributed globally to our detriment here in America. I keep hearing all this blah blah blah about how the economy is great and revcovering and new normal jobless rate is 8 or 9% or more. What crap.

Now the housing prices will drop in Rochester. So much for a recovery. I know. We all can go back to college, get a loan and get another degree for the non existent jobs. Or a job at $10.00 an hour or less. The only jobs left are in government.

Well put. The 1% are almost always just looking out for themselves. S/N: if you're allegedly a newbie to the forum, why don't you stick to one username? Unless you're that troll from Fairport we had a few months back?

To the original poster: what does this have anything to do with Schumer? It's as ridiculous as trying to say the MC Legislature was responsible for this.

Schumer is a senator. Pass laws to stop foreign companies from coming to the USA and taking jobs. Valeo took how many jobs from Rochester?“Senator Schumer met with the CEO of Valeant and made an argument in the strongest terms that Bausch & Lomb is an outstanding company and that Valeant should keep all jobs in Rochester.” Like they care Chuck. They are based in Canada.

B&L (and Kodak, if it survives) will do what a few people at the top dictate. Non negotiabe. Not what the mid managers, engineers, scientists or finance people suggest -- if the top wants to implement an idea they will.

If that plan negativity impacts a community, they will publicly explain how very concerned they are, but when the cameras are off them, it's business as usual.

Perez and his executive team have thoroughly trashed Kodak, which started with George Fischer. They will stay to the bitter end, collecting (looting) millions of dollars and living extremely well in retirement.

What can we do about it? Nothing except watch it unfold.

True, he does. But so do our Congresspeople, as well as our State Senators and members of the Assembly.

UofR, St John Fisher, Nazareth, MCC and RIT will be next. The next economic downturn (coming fast) will force these colleges to downsize. No money and no jobs = no college education. Go in debt $100,000 for a $10.00 hour job? Many of the overpriced professors will be gone. We soon will have lots of Baush and Lomb people looking for work (anything) or forced to leave Rochester and compete with thousands of other who have been downsized and outsourced in the USA. Many may be out of work for good.

Welcome to third world America... which is catching up with Rochester fast.

No, maybe everything is OK. President Obama said so. The federal government would never provide us with flawed information. And after all, their spending billions on cyber security, which they wouldn't do if we couldn't afford.

I like how everything is Obama's fault to a lot of people on this thread. It's just as idiotic as the people who blamed Bush for every problem we had.

NY State is running TV ads nationwide promoting how friendly we are to business (yes, we're paying for them). I have seen them in LA, San Francisco, Chicago and Dallas.

I would like to know if any businesses are coming to NY State. We know they're advertising, but we never hear about any significant progress. The gov should be reporting to his constituency that they have at least a couple of successes... and not fast food restaurants, tanning salons or retail.

How about a chip plant or heavy manufacturing company bringing a 1,000 or more skilled jobs here -- that will generate disposable income.

Well he keeps saying things are getting better but they are not. They are getting worse. We are going deeper in debt with no end in sight and he himself and his wife are spending millions traveling all over the world while America is failing apart. I have seen no leadership from Obama. He may have not caused the big debt mess but he is sure adding to it big time. Now Detroit is Bankrupt. What city is next or what State? Soon it will be the whole USA. He is like the greedy selfish CEO's in America, living for today and thinking about themselves. Get all you can get and then walk away. Who cares about the people- employees or citizens. Its all about me. America is now 27Th?

Agree. Obama is not providing adequate leadership, and our economy is in shambles. We are printing money at an alarming rate, and it is becoming more worthless by the month. A record number of Americans are living in poverty.

Like someone else here said, we need manufacturing jobs, not retail. It is unfortunate for the people that are being separated from their jobs at B&L that they have no good choices in Rochester for equal or better employment. Employment at Qwikie Mart or Macy's is not going to feed a family.

This is the second large company bought out by a Canadian company. Kodak Carestream is also Canadian owned. So is Kodaks huge warehouse on Lexington ave.
Must have something to do with the strong economy and strong dollar in Canada.
