Children under 18 will not be permitted to visit patients at Berkshire Medical Center and Fairview Hospital to limit their exposure to flu viruses, hospital officials announced Wednesday.

There is confirmed flu in the area...Unbelievable absence rate at the schools, both students and staff. > than 150 students out at each of the following schoools...Reid, Herberg, and PHS. Given CBS News' findings that most cases of flu-like illnesses are neither H1N1 nor the flu,
it begs the question: Why is the CDC reporting that most flu in the United States is in fact H1N1?
Barbara Loe Fisher, founder of the National Vaccine Information Center who I spoke with
in the interview above, was a consumer representative on the FDA Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee in 2003, and she asked the head of the influenza branch of the CDC how much of the flu-like illness that occurs in America every year is actually due to the flu.
The answer was about 20 percent, which corresponds more closely with the CBS News data from 2009.
According to the CBS News study, when you come down with chills, fever, cough, runny nose,
malaise and all those other "flu-like" symptoms, the illness is likely caused by influenza at most
17 percent of the time and as little as 3 percent!
The other 83 to 97 percent of the time it's caused by other viruses or bacteria.
So remember that not every illness that appears to be the flu actually is the flu. In fact, most of the time it's not.
Curiously, the CDC still advises those who were told they had 2009 H1N1(and therefore should be immune to getting it again) to get vaccinated unless they had lab confirmation.
Is the CDC Purposely Misinforming the Public to Sell More Flu and H1N1 Vaccines?
Conflicts of interest are rampant in the vaccination infrastructure. The same people who are regulating and promoting vaccines are also evaluating vaccine safety.
For instance, Dr. Paul Offit of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia earned at least $29 million as part of a $182-million sale by the hospital of its worldwide royalty interest in the Merck Rotateq vaccine. He also formerly sat on the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) to help create the market for rotavirus vaccine
This type of conflict of interest has been going on for some time.
In August 1999, the Committee on Government Reform initiated an investigation into Federal vaccine policy. During the investigation the Committee extensively reviewed financial disclosure forms and related documents and interviewed key officials
from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the CDC.
It was revealed that many individuals on two key advisory committees had financial ties to pharmaceutical companies that manufacture vaccines.
These individuals were even granted waivers allowing them to fully participate
in discussions about vaccine licensing and recommendations for children, despite the fact that federal law states members of advisory committees are required to disclose such ties and excuse themselves from such discussions and decisions.

I don't know of any confirmed cases, but there have been reported symptoms, from what I hear. I understand the need to err of the side of caution. My problem with this is that anyone with a sniffle and a cough has been trained to overreact with fear.

There are alot of cold viruses going around, just so happening during the swine flu "pandemic" and the mass hysteria that has been drummed into everyone's heads.

I think it has been determined that swine flu, regardless of its ominous name and mysterious sudden appearance, is really just another strain of the regular flu. It is not more lethal than seasonal flu, in fact it may be less severe.

Reports of flu symptoms and confirmed cases are two totally different things. "Flu" symptoms are common symptoms of many illnesses. It would be more helpful to hear about the number of confirmed flu cases, regardless of type, than it is to just hear about people reporting symptoms.

I live in Baltimore. Our area has been hit hard by the swine flu. College students are dying and although I've had it and recovered from it, my friend was 5 months pregnant with twins, when she was sick with swine flu,she recovered, but both babies died of swine flu. The swine flu is real. Old Mizer your rants would make more sense if you would have elected to blame bio terrorism as oppossed to blaming the filthy rich and those who work in the fields of science. Also You are only telling part of the story regarding the CDC. the inaccurate statistics of flu like symptoms is a direct result of limited supplies of test kits. Initially the CDC only supplied emergency rooms with the CDC confirmation kits. Family doctors treated the symptoms without being afforded the privledge of counting their patients as a statistic because there simply was not and still is not enough confirmation kits to go around. Therefore the statistic are listed as influenza. Don't talk people out of vaccines based on half truths.

A few weeks back we took ou daughter to the doctor and got her a regular flu shot. The H1N1 shot was not yet available.
This last weekend the daughter showed a fever and chills. She was observed with all the symptoms of the H1N1 flu so we took the daughter to her doctor on Monday afternoon. The Doctor's ofice confirmed that she has the H1N1 Flu. We have kept her home and she appears to be doing very well. In fact, today she wanted to go back to school.

My dads take on all this: The hysteria surrounding this susposedly deadly outbreak is drummed up by the administration to get the healthcare bill passed. I hope he is not correct.

My daughter had a CONFIRMED H1N1 case friday this week I had a CONFIRMED H1N1 case. This was done by something called a flu test so wake up it is in Pittsfield and ignorant people who are ignoring it is the reason its spreading while we are at home missing a week of work and school.

Sorry to disappoint you but almost a month ago my whole household received the flu vaaccine. IGNORANT!

My question is, and I haven't researched it thoroughly to answer it yet, but is the H1N1 flu killing more people than the regular flu does every season? I don't know the statistics, and since we haven't made it through the first full flu season with the new "swine", we probably can't make a fair comparison. But I'm gonna take a huge guess and say no, the swine flu will not end up killing more than the regular flu does every single year (the figure is in the tens of thousands I believe). It's simply something new to zero in on and panic about. I haven't lost any sleep over this and don't plan on it (nor have I received any type of flu vaccine or plan to for that matter). People have become insane when it comes to germs and viruses - Lysol should be our new best friend, blah blah blah. New and dangerous strands of viruses, etc., can at least be partially thankful to us for our OVERUSE of antibacterial products and antibiotics. These are problems of our own creating and now we're going ahead and perpetuating the cycle: more germs = more antibacterial products and antibiotics which = more resistant germs. If people wanna live their life in a panic that's fine, but you won't see me at the PHS auditorium listening to the officials blab about this shit anymore (and I have a son in school).

children under 10 have to have 2 doses of the h1n1 vaccine. the nasal mist does not contain thimerosal but is only good for children 3 and up. the h1n1 shot does contain a little of the thimerosal but there is no scientific link between thimerosal ans autism..........what do we do, what can we do, it's up to you. me, i got my 6 month old and 3yr old vaccinated and will be bringing them back for the second dose next month, god willing there is still some vaccines left.

I never had the flu in my whole life so why get a flu shot..Leave well enough alone is my choice..My husband had a flu shot once and then he got really sick with the flu for over a month...The doctor said OH NO it was not the shot that made him get the flu..Well I beg to differ on that issue.
