Right of gunman remains secure

Full story: Berkshire Eagle

It must surely be a great consolation to the bereaved families in Kentucky that the Supreme Court has sanctioned the gunman's right to protect himself by shooting five people.

I will never understand the mentality of those who want to destroy our second amendment right to bear arms.

Our forefathers understood the concept of when ONLY the King's men can carry a sword, we must not be surprised when the King starts throwing his weight around.

They also understood that BAD people do exist, and we have every GOD GIVEN right to be able to defend our families and neighbors from them..

That some of you don't get this very simple concept amazes me..

Hey...whats with this "gunman" garbage? I resent the implication but expect as much from a liberal rag like the Eagle.A gunman in most peoples book is a criminal not a law abideing citizen.

I think if everyone could carry a gun that for the first year there would be alot of unnessary violence while the concept sunk in and the idiots were weeded out. And yes many innocents would die. I think though that alot of the dregs of society would be eliminated and that then the fear of reprisal would cut crime by 80-90 percent. I feel that in the long run it would be a good thing. Not so good if you get killed in the breaking in period.

Although I could not find precise figures, it is reported that 25% of adult Americans, or 1 in 4, owns a gun. In the state of Texas alone, there are 68 million registered guns. Based on these numbers, then it stands to reason that the author of this letter personally knows at least a few gun owners, the majority of whom are not going out and randomly killing innocent people. When we vote to give up our rights, whether we agree with the idea or not, we all lose. I am not a conspiracy theorist, but I like to hunt and target shoot, and own several guns. I don't believe the answer to halting crime is to deprive the entire nation of their right to choose whether or not to own a handgun. I don't know what the answer is, but I am not, nor do I plan to be a criminal or a mass murderer, and I believe the majority of gun owners aren't, either.

Why do people want to give up their right to bear arms to the government? Do you think criminals are going to just hand them in? And do you think criminals are all of a sudden not going to be able to get a gun when you taken the guns away from law abiding people? Not to mention, that if the government gets too strong and takes more rights away from the citizens, the government has no threat from uprising, when the citizens have NO weapons. Why don't these anti-gun people concentrate on more productive efferts such as, promoting gun education and proper storage? BTW, I don't own a gun, but, I want the right to have one, if I so choose.

This guy is a nut case, just the sort of person that we need to keep guns away from.

It is too easy in this country for anyone to get a gun. It can sit quietly for a long time until one day that person has a disagreement with a supervisor, spouse or classmates that they can't handle rationally so they start shooting and it's bang, bang, bang you're all dead.

Guns are designed to kill as is the mentality of our society in place of rational conflict and resolution. The NRA people give us the line that guns don't kill people, people do. Well that's a lot of malarky, look at the bullets that are taken out of people that have been shot. The gun manufacturers are always designing the guns to kill more and faster. It is a terrible dilemma for our country and unfortunately will never change.

This administration has made the whole problem even worse.

God Bless us All.

Yup another mass murder in a gun free zone. If somebody else was armed maybe they could have dropped this crazy F'er in his tracks before he killed four more innocent people. No instead they get to cower, hide, dial 911, wait for the cops, or the guy to kill himself.

You're an idiot! If the "mass murderer" didn't have a gun He would be nothing more than perhaps a mass muderer.

Yea Jim Big changes.

Like getting back the right to own a handgun. The law taking away the right was ruled un-constitutional. I love it.

You understand that a gun is a tool? Owning one does not make you a criminal. Using that tool in the commision of a crime makes you a criminal.

The fact that liberals seem to think that guns are the problem is one more example of a lack of understanding.

How could you advocate taking away a right from a law abiding citizen? There is no argument in the world for a ban. There are arguments for registration and for limits on criminals and those with preconditions that might invalidate their owning of a gun. But to take a right away from a sane, person with no criminal record or restraining orders. come on you can't advocate that?

Typical libtard logic! No big deal to have mass murderers. It's just wrong to have the tools to stop them.

The scenario you describe my friend is FAR more likely when the only gun around is the one being operated by your murderer..

If there were 2 or 3 people in the crowd carrying, they could drop that rabid dog before he chambered the first round..

Case closed...

Somebody get a mop...

Cost to put him down.?$2.50 per bullet..

Cost to keep him alive AFTER killing 16 peeps in a mall, feed him 3 times a day, provide him with health care, metal health rehab, and releasing him because he's cured..?

I'll stick with the $2.50..

And the mop..

Meanwhile, every single day, there are 13 children who die from guns in this country!
Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?

“Elevate those guns a little lower.”
Andrew Jackson quotes (American 7th US President, 1767-1845)

"It is not a loss of freedom. It's a measure to protect it.[on gun control]" James Brady

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed." Dwight David Eisenhower

Since you are SO fond of quotes:

No freeman shall ever be debarred the use of arms.
---Thomas Jefferson: Draft Virginia Constitution, 1776.

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
---Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759.

To model our political system upon speculations of lasting tranquility, is to calculate on the weaker springs of the human character.
---Alexander Hamilton

The Constitution preserves the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation...(where) the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.
---James Madison,The Federalist Papers, No. 46.

The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretence, raised in the United States.
---Noah Webster, An Examination of the Leading

Principles of the Federal Constitution (Philadelphia 1787).
Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Is it feared, then, that we shall turn our arms each man gainst his own bosom. Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American...[T]he unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people.
---Tenche Coxe, The Pennsylvania Gazette, Feb. 20, 1788.
