Calm down Arron. These kids cannot be allowed to just run around building things all over the place. This poor lady never asked these renegade kids to come over ...but they were marauding around with hammers and saws and blueprints just looking to build something on someones property and she was lined up to be a victim of the whole mess. Thanks god it was caught in time

Well if Pittsfield's least ethical contemporary mayor, Ruberto, was still in office he could have had his good friends at Spice who received the most generous tax givaways in the city's history cater a teen beer blast house raising party.

The expose of the Pittsfield School Dept. shenanigans of the ethically-challenged Asst. Superintendent Cote and his wily secretary Lynn Whitney begs the question.
Did these two city employees (who already make a fine living off the public teat) really expect not to get caught?
Is the PSD so ineptly managed that these two co-conspirators actually figured they could get away with their $150,000 scam (the actual cost of local labor were Ms, Whitney actually to have to pay to build the type of house she described in her bid proposal) and that no one would notice?
Were the school committee members (other than Mr. Kinnas) cognizant that they were being asked to vote to facilitate a scam?
PlanetValenti reported that Hizzoner Mayor Bianchi was not at the school committee meeting that day to vote.
Why not?
And was Hizzoner’s absence intentional and related to the Whitney proposal on the agenda (surely, the Whitney matter was on the school committee’s official agenda that day, and isn’t the agenda emailed out in advance to committee members prior to meetings)?
Perhaps, Dan Valenti can also fill us in as to the respective salaries, perks, and benefits already lavished on Mr. Cote and Ms. Whitney by city taxpayers.
And a great big thank you goes out to the local tabloid for keeping the citizens/taxpayers well informed on this issue and the great job the mayor and the city council did at last Tuesday's city council meeting. Cheers!

Isn't it interesting that Daniel Bianchi was elected Mayor on the promise that he was going to clean-up all these shady dealings and goings-on.
And now where the hell is he?
He never even participated in voting at that School Committee meeting where this Cote/Whitney matter was up for discussion.
When is Mayor Bianchi going to return from being AWOL in office.
Shady dealings and goings-on is not the exception in Pittsfield politics. It's the rule. And if rules or citizens have to be stomped on, broken or ignored to accomplish this, that's not a problem. In Pittsfield all "those kind of people" are in office to ensure that shady dealings continue in Pittsfield. Nothing has changed, and nothing will change. Ethics and morality had better not come to Pittsfield if they know what's good for them. Pittsfield should at least put up signs at the gateways to Pittsfield with the warning: Ethics and Morality enter at your own risk, and if you do, don't let the sun go down on you in beautiful Pittsfield.

Where did the $316,000 funding come from to rehab that house on Circular Ave. being offered at a fire sale price of $79,900 and how does this make any sense? The contact information the last time I looked was; Contact Deanna Ruffer. Who was hired to rehab this property at a cost of $316,000? And how does that make any sense?

This is reminiscent of the no-bid sweetheart contracts Pittsfield Public Works Department for years entered into with Petricca Construction Company.
The job could be street reconstruction, or sewer installation, or sidewalk reconstruction, etc.— it didn’t matter how big nor how costly.
These were projects each costing hundreds of thousands of dollars, sometimes more than a million, yet there was never any serious effort made by city officials, the awarding authority, to advertise these projects properly in order to obtain the lowest competitive bid.
Petricca ALWAYS had the inside straight.
It sure looks like things haven’t changed much, at least over at the Pittsfield Public Schools.
The Mayor and/or DA Capeless should immediately launch an investigation.
Further, both Asst. School Superintendent Frank Cote along with his secretary, Lynn Whitney, should be placed on leave OR EVEN TERMINATED from city employ for obviously cooking up this sleazy scheme by which the secretary would net a newly-constructed house free of the labor costs of construction.
(Is there more to the Cote/Whitney relationship than just that of boss/secretary?)
Further, does anyone doubt that, except for Terry Kinnas (and the Mayor), the school committee — Alfred Barbalunga, Jr., Kathy Yon, Kathleen Amuso, Jim Conant, and Dan Elias, may all have been in on this?
The mayor or the DA, really? You really think one or both should launch an investigation? Wouldn't an investigation, a true investigation complicate this scam? I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that an ethical person at the center of this scam would withdraw their interest in this scam. But that's not going to happen either.

*Was the alleged theft by Greylock "certain issues" Mr. Sticky Fingers investigated? Is there really only one drug abuser in the PPD? An elite member of the drug task force using illegal drugs on duty, who somehow went undetected right under the noses of law enforcement including "chief Wynn, a former DEA agent. I mean if "one" could elude detection in a shithole full of cops, who's to say that there aren't others eluding detection of illegal drug use, somehow. Who's going to believe any of them? Does anyone believe there wasn't an attempt by the MeReDEaTH to avoid detection and prosecution for almost killing a man? Is there any doubt Carmen Massimiano more than likely got away with unsavory crimes? Does any believe Angelo Stracuzzi was a good decent man, until one day, at age 50 he suddenly without any warning and developed an unhealthy immoral criminal appetite for young under age boys? Was there a theft in the water dept. of hundreds of thousands of dollars? Was the theft of $9,000 from PHS an inside job? Was there a pornographic pictorial of a blond haired woman adorning the walls of the squad rooom at the PFD? A woman rumored to bear a strong resemblance to a local woman who has been prominently in the news, adorning the PFD squad room walls. And you want an investigation. Are you crazy!

Maybe a fairer approach to being considered for free labor from THS students would be to make it less free. Maybe the city should require a check made out the the city of Pittsfield along with your applications for consideration for free labor. Maybe there should also be a fee for the application for consideration of free labor. And I'd like to know if the winner of free labor is required to purchase additional insurance coverage in the event that a student falls off the roof they're not suppose to be on in the first place or cuts off any fingers? Does the homeowner provide coffee and donuts every morning when the work crew arrives and a free lunch? And the homeowner should absolutely be responsible for the cost of any contractors supervising the students.

Adding logic to the Pittsfield School dept. and Pittsfield politics will get you nowhere... lol
