Teen pregnancies

Amherst, NH

#2 Jul 22, 2012
Teen pregnancies double the statewide average in Pittsfield. Pittsfield is known for its high per capita welfare caseloads. What a community! They don't care about the poor and disadvantaged in Pittsfield, Massachusetts!
PCBs

Amherst, NH

#3 Jul 22, 2012
Pittsfield is a toxic waste site. Thousands of local residents have suffered and died from cancer due to PCBs left behind by Jack Welch's GE. The consent decree caps many of the toxic waste sites in Pittsfield. The problem with the caps is that they are a short-term solutions. The caps do NOT last. After the caps expire, the toxic waste continues to spread around Pittsfield, Massachusetts.

A post by "Eric", on August 22, 2008:

"The problem with local politics isn't partisanship. We have a mayor [Jimmy Ruberto] whose brother was DA [the late-Anthony Ruberto]. We have a DA [David Capeless] whose father was Mayor. How many votes did Jerry Doyle Sr. buy [Mayor] Jerry Doyle Jr. with driveway aprons and apartments in public housing?[William] Smitty Pignatelli's father was County Commissioner.[Chris] Speranzo's grandfather was a Democrat mover and shaker and union thug. Ben Downing's father [Gerard Downing] was DA and his father enough of a political hack to have an industrial park named after him.[Andrea] Nuciforo's [II] father [Andrea Nuciforo I] was a [State] Senator [and then a Judge], Uncle [Tom Wojtkowski] was a State Rep and Aunt a Mayor [Anne E. Wojtkowski].[Kevin] Sherman's mother is a Del Gallo. The problem around here isn't partisanship so much as nepotism and incest."
unethical mayor

#5 Jul 22, 2012
In October of 2004, the former general manager of the Red Sox, Dan Duquette, sold two tickets to the second game of the Sox-Cardinals World Series to Mayor James Ruberto of Pittsfield. The mayor paid Duquette face value for the tickets,$190 each. In 2010, the Massachusetts State Ethics Commission found Pittsfield Mayor James Ruberto guilty for receiving 2004 World Series tickets from former Red Sox GM Dan Duquette at face value while negotiating the deal for Dan Duquette's use of Wahconah Park. The Ethics Commission also found the mayor guilty of using his job to gain access to the World Series tickets. "Ruberto violated [the law] by using his official position as mayor to obtain an unwarranted privilege, i.e., the opportunity to purchase the tickets at face value from Duquette, someone with whom he had no prior personal, social relationship, while Duquette was seeking to move the Dukes to [Wahconah] Park," it said.

"Bump looks to address job losses in Berkshires"
2/19/2007
By: Karen Honikel
(Capital News 9 out of Albany, NY covering the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts)

Governor Deval Patrick's new Executive Director of Workforce Development isn't wasting any time getting down to business.

Former State Representative Suzanne Bump is working to introduce herself to the local business communities and let them know she will make sure the Berkshires are not forgotten on Beacon Hill. She says a major concern right now is addressing the loss of jobs in the Berkshires.

Currently the Berkshires have the highest rate of job loss in Massachusetts. Bump says this can be changed with the right policies in place. She says she will be meeting with the Governor once a week to work on bringing skilled workers and higher paying jobs into the area.

Bump says a key part to local job growth and development will be finding a way to keep the younger workers in the Berkshires.

Historical rates
Here's a look at Berkshire County's unemployment rates in the early 1990s, when General Electric was shutting down, and the latest monthly statistic from January:
1991: 10.7 percent.
1992: 10.9 percent
1993: 8.6 percent
January 2009: 8.3 percent
number one employer

The single largest employer in Pittsfield is the City of Pittsfield. The municipal government is the economy in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Dan Valenti writes about this issue by using the fictional "Kapanski" family who works for the dreaded private sector, pays their taxes, and are decent, law-abiding citizens who get financially screwed by the Good Old Boy network who run Pittsfield politics.
Nuciforo on crime

Amherst, NH

#9 Jul 22, 2012
Three years ago on June 27, 2000, Molly Bish, then 16, was reported missing from her lifeguard post in Warren. She was recently positively identified as a murder victim. Unfortunately, her murderer was not found. John and Magdalen Bish, Molly Bish's parents, showed true courage when they went to the Statehouse this month to lobby for a bill to require DNA samples from all felons so that the Commonwealth would have the capacity to apprehend such violent criminals. All but three state Senators listened to the Bish family's case for a DNA database. The three state Senators who opposed the DNA database are state Senators Robert Creedon Jr., D-Brockton, Cynthia Creem, D-Newton, and Andrea F. Nuciforo, Jr., D-Pittsfield.

I oppose state Senator Nuciforo's cold and pitiless position against an all Felon DNA database. Senator Nuciforo argued that the all Felon DNA database would violate the civil liberties of nonviolent criminals. However, Senator Nuciforo supported omitting the following felonies, including, but not limited to, drugging with the intent to rape, assault and battery on a child with bodily injury, and all drug and gun felonies.

This is the delegate that Berkshire County has sent to Beacon Hill since the 1996 election. A politician so removed from everyday life that he would classify child abuse and other felonies as "nonviolent" crimes under the false pretenses of protecting the civil liberties of "nonviolent" felons. It is time that we organize and oppose legislators like Senator Nuciforo so that we can protect our youth in Molly Bish's name.

Note: This bill was signed into law last year by Gov. Romney and only opposed by Nuciforo in the final state Senate vote.

Jack Downing runs a non-profit group that is supposed to help at-risk homeless veterans. Jack Downing is the brother of the late-DA Gerard Downing. His nephew is state Senator Ben Downing. Jack Downing is not a Veteran. But, Jack Downing is a political hack. Jack Downing earns a large, 6-figure salary running the non-profit group that is supposed to help homeless Veterans. Jack Downing pays GE lobbyist Peter Larkin many tens of thousands of dollars per year out of taxpayer funds for helping homeless Veterans. Jack Downing is representative of Pittsfield politics.
North Street

Amherst, NH

#11 Jul 22, 2012
Downtown Pittsfield is an art exhibit known as North Street, otherwise known as social services alley. Gregory Crewdson is an artist who took photos of North Street and displayed them in art galleries from London to Manhattan to Beverly Hills. He described Pittsfield as "a decaying backwater on the western edge of the state". He described North Street as having "themes of anxiety, loneliness, mystery and separation, all played out in arenas of jarring domestic banality". I compare downtown Pittsfield to North Adams. In North Adams, they have a museum known as MASS MoCA. Like Crewdson's art exhibit on North Street, Mass MoCA main exhibit is not its art exhibits, but rather, they are showing visitors from New York City and other places the condition of the North Adams community. To outside observers, places like North Street and North Adams are the art exhibits. The art exhibits on North Street and in Mass MoCA are art exhibits inside of art exhibits. When the founders of Mass MoCA chose North Adams, they chose a community that is an art exhibit of a post-industrial wasteland with pre-dominantly poor people living in tenemant housing. When Crewdson displayed his photos of North Street in London, Manhattan and Beverly Hills, he was displaying North Street as an art exhibit in itself.

Who will save Pittsfield?
Can Pittsfield be saved?
Jack Welch & GE left town.
Jimmy Ruberto still lives in his late-mother's house.
Wahconah Park is a flood zone.
PCBs are in the ground and water.
Teenage girls are getting pregnant and going on welfare.
Taxes are going up every year.
People are leaving the area.
Nuciforo is losing his race for U.S. Congress.
North Street is still a dump that people avoid.
Jack Downing is still kissing Carmen Massimiano's backside.
The Good Old Boys are all inter-related and share a low gene pool.

Thank you for that intelligent bit of input posted by yet another anonymous troll on Topix.
Is it that you doubt it is Jonathan Melle posting every one of the comments labeled as originating from New Hampshire?
Because it's so blatantly obvious, why doesn't he just use his real name.
And an anonymous troll from Pittsfield defends such a charade?

I love Pittsfield politics. I follow the people, politicians, events, and issues from the Granite State. I miss eating Teo's hotdogs. Yum! I wish I was the Mayor of Pittsfield, Massachusetts. I would ask Jack Welch to drink the tap water in Pittsfield. I would provide birth control to all of the teenage girls getting pregnant in Pittsfield. I would ban nepotism in govermment. I would tell Jimmy Ruberto to move out of his late-mother's home. I would build a new baseball park for a minor league baseball team. I would cut taxes. I would oppose Nuciforo's efforts to win a seat in U.S. Congress. I would tell Jack Downing he is a Good Old Boy who never served our country in the military yet makes his living off of homeless Veterans. I would kick out all of the social services agency from North Street. I would grow the local economy so that thousands of people would stop leaving the area. I would change the fact that the #1 employer is the city of Pittsfield. I love Pittsfield politics and I would make a lot of changes to Pittsfield, Massachusetts if I were Mayor.

Carmen Massimiano runs Pittsfield politics. He backed Jimmy Ruberto for Mayor. He is close friends with Andrea F. Nuciforo, Jr. The are all Good Old Boy Democratic Party political hacks. I support Richard Neal for U.S. Congress in 2012.

As far as Jimmy Ruberto living in his dead mothers home, what difference does it make? She'd dead, she doesn't need it anymore. And on nepotism, didn't I recently read that it's as old as sin? But unlike that other 'as old as sin,' sin, I'm sure nepotism will never be criminalized. And now teen pregancy rates in Pittsfield, you need not worry yourself because that woman that killed a pedestrian in the crosswalk is involved in solving the teen pregancy issue in Pittsfield. But I do agree that those social service agencies in the heart of beautiful thriving downtown Pittsfield's cultural district should go to hell.
