And then there's this loser....
Can you even imagine how much money Heller owes us?
Heller, facing big fine, ponders next move
By Steve Moore
MONTEREY- Glenn M. Heller, a conscientious gadfly to some people and a contentious blackfly to others, said yesterday that he does not believe he was price gouging at his Beacon Hill gas station in the late 1970s.
On Tuesday, Heller, a part-time resident of Monterey, was ordered by a U.S District Court judge to pay $160,000 in fines for exceeding the price ceilings set by the Department of Energy during the gasoline shortage caused by an Arab oil embargo. The DOE itself ordered him to pay an additional $54,347.98 for overcharging.
Lacks the money
He was charging $1.56.9 a gallon at his Boston station- the highest price in the nation- when the DOE ordered him to drop it to no more than 89.9 cents. He made gas price news again in 1981 when he boosted his price to $2.74.8 per gallon.
Asked if he would pay the fine, Heller paused and said,“When I have the money.” Pressed about whether he had the money, he said no.
He said that he did not know if he would appeal the finding but that he has learned not to “argue with judges” and would consider that finding fair and correct.
A story in yesterday’s Eagle erred, Heller said in that it described him as a “former Monterey resident.” He still lives in Monterey summers, he said and in fact was staying here this week. Heller, who at one time acted as a self-appointed watch-dog of area government, said he goes back and forth between Monterey and Chevy Chase, Md. He also has an address in Washington, D.C.
“I’m like the wind, man,” he said.
He declined to elaborate very much on his financial situation, except to note that he was “between careers” and right now gets some money “from good works”.
Regarding the era of gasoline shortages and his price gouging, Heller denied he was gouging. By charging more than anyone else during the shortage, his limited supply of gas lasted longer and he was able to stay open 24 hours a day. It was a period when people had to wait in long lines to buy gas and when stations frequently ran out of gas.
“People were damn glad the station was open,” Heller said,“and that there was gas there.”
Change of direction
His station was at 358 Cambridge St., at the foot of the Beacon Hill area. He said he went out of business in 1984 because the one-time shortage of gasoline became a glut. His landlord and supplier, Gulf Oil, went to court to try and evict him because he refused to pay an increase in rent, from $1,000 to as much as $1, 800 at the end, he said.
On Tuesday, Judge Douglas P. Woodcock ordered Heller to pay $134,689.96 for overcharging customers and $25,000 for violations of the Economic Stabilization Act of 1970 and the Emergency Petroleum Allocation Act of 1973.

The republicans ow the oil companies and have decided that it might be helpful to Romney if they raised the price of gas and blamed it on Obama. But Obama has nothing to do with it a hole. It is in fact the Republicans all the way. And they have other dirty tricks they are ready to roll out a\because they are desperate now that Romney has made a complete a hole of himself and the party.

Only an idiot would not blame Barry the halfrican for all the problems of the last four years and only the king of the arseholes would say such crap about rising fuel prices.Best bet for you is to ask your doctor to increase your meds. barry is going back to Chicago where forty people a night are shot and not a word from him on it. I hate poor people because like you they are all idiots.
I bet you smoke, shackup, breed illigid kids, have stupid tattoos and rent the dump you call home. And of course your ball cap is on backwards.
Ozzie, I am always fumbling, bumbling and intimidated when I talk to you important rich folk. I feel like I am probably wasting your time even talking to you because of my insignificance in life. But as you know us poor folk are needed by you to do all the menial task like cleaning your toilets and shining your shoes so you really should not be so rude to us. And I don't think having a tattoo of a man changing the oil in a Mercedes is stupit. Only two out of seven of my kids are illegitimate so I think that is a pretty good record so far. I roll my own smokes and I do wear my baseball cap backwards because it only goes one way. I think. It is hard to tell because the visor is missing. And I am hoping to inherit this trailer from my aunt someday and then you won't be making fun of it will you wise guy.

Obama all the way in 2012 although I do idolize Romney because he cares so much about his fellow humans.

Gas gougers should be arrested no matter how old the crime is. No matter if it is Heller or someone other despicable bastard. The price of gas goes up because nobody really cares. Talk is cheap. Start by tracking down Glenn Heller and make him the fall guy. Opps, did I say that?

Ozzie - Here's a challenge for you, See if you can take a stand on an issue and articulate your point of view without using ethnic slurs, stereotypes, and foul language. It seems that's all you've got. Take those words out and you don't say much!

I've noticed has prices inching down. In fact, as I was passing a gas station yesterday, they were taking down the #9sign so it was 3.89 down from 3.91.

Now I am retired and living a good life but I am also on a mission to pay back the bums who slanderd George Bush for eight years by giving them a dose of their own medicine. It was democRATs who destroyed all civility in politics and it is now their turn to be raked over the coals.
It's also time to exterminate every last f cuking one of them.
