Two good people, one bad system

Full story: Berkshire Eagle

I thank John Fitzgerald for his May 9 letter coming to the defense of Angelo Stracuzzi, the president of the Greylock Credit Union, a man who led that organization to first place in its class in the nation.

Until judges are elected and held accountable in MA it will always be suspect and rightfully so. Nilan should have stayed away from this case, and perhaps another county should have handles the probation. Stracuzzi had an obligation to tell the credit union about the case and his probation, after all he was in a high profile position. Like most crimes, ever so small, it is the cover-up that does people in.

Still shows terrible judgement picking up a hitch hiker. Other options should have been considered. Never pick up hitchhikers. How many times did our mothers tell us that?

There must have been evidence or any good lawyer would have gotten that tossed out before the ink was dry.

I think it is quite ironic that The Eagle printed Mr. Pope's letter on the same day that they finally printed "Stracuzzi was charged with six crimes in connection with two back-to-back incidents in July 2004, including two counts of soliciting sex from a minor, according to a spokeswoman in the court clerk's office."
I hope Mr. Pope read the article and is now ashamed of his letter.

The truth begins to trickle out.
FINALLY, The Berkshire Eagle reports facts that it was given at least as early as June 1st and which it might even have had as early as last January, but which nonetheless were originally published on Berkshire Blog on June 3rd, nine days ago.

Note that today's report still does not give specific details of the events that led to Angelo Stracuzzi's being summoned to a Maine district court on criminal charges including 'Patronizing Prostitution of a Minor', nor does Conor Berry's report include the ages of the two boys involved, aged 15 and 13.
Also note there is still no reference by The Eagle to the other Conditions of Probation ordered by the Maine Superior Court judge, e.g. the order for Mr. Stracuzzi to obtain psychological evaluation, and counseling as need.
Did the Berkshire Probation office follow up to verify that the judge's order was followed?
Also note how The Berkshire Eagle is reporting every gory detail of the North Adam's Rabbit-killer story, whereas a former Pittsfield city council president gets convicted in Maine in incidents involving underaged boys and The Berkshire Eagle gives it a total whitewash with reported details only hazy and vague.
Nothing about the specific events leading up to how a local credit union CEO could get involved with a 15 and 13 year-old in Biddeford, nor how Mr. Stracuzzi came to get caught in his criminal misbehavior.
What was Mr. Stracuzzi doing in Maine; why was he even there?
Did he travel across state lines with the intent to do that for which he subsequently was charged by Biddeford Police?
If so, that's a federal crime.
The Berkshire Eagle's obvious failure to provide relevant details in the Stracuzzi conviction compared to the paper's coverage of the rabbit-killer in North Adams shows The Eagle for what it is.
The double-standard is about as glaring as it can get -- even for The Eagle.
If this were an article about a Berkshire County Republican, or some local out-of-favor politico, you just know the headline would have been:
"Local VIP charged in underage sex rap in Maine"!

Exactly what constitutes good in your book, a guy that tries to have sex with minors or a guy that covers up for him.

The court docket numbers
York County Superior Court (Maine)
Criminal Docket No. 05-194
Criminal Docket No. 04-2288

Read it for yourself.

If the Eagle did an investigation they could have exposed lots of leaching and questionable acts conducted by Barrett, one of their "Golden Boys".

I'm glad you think my blogs are funny, I try. This letter, however, is NOT in any way funny. A grown man condoning another grown man trying to have sex with a kid and then having a friend, who is supposed to be protecting kids and adults both from the kind of behavior exhibited by the former CEO IS NOT funny, it's disgusting. I worked with and around kids every day, 8 hours a day, for 15 years and tried to protect them from people like this. I don't find any humor to this letter. I think these two finally being exposed for what they are as ironic humor though, and can't wait to laugh more when the rest of the gang gets brought down. Time is not on their side, Mick.

It will be interesting to see the outcome of all this, seeing as how the Pittsfield DA just had my son jailed for recieving oral sex from a girl in high school (he was 18 at the time). It guess who you are, makes all the difference!

Where is sharon, where is ramdan and why is 562 South St. in Pittsfield vacant?. Knuckleheads or no? Bring in the homeless and give them a chance. They will bring up the neighborhood.
