More than likely he was waiting for his Road Home money from Uncle Sam. That way he does not have to use his winnings to repair his homes that Katrina messed up.

Glad he won. But he and his wife had three houses between them, so it's not like he was homeless. But, still glad he won. Even happier for the store he bought the ticket from-it was damaged and looted during Katrina and now it will get some $$ for selling the winning ticket. Seems like everyone wins. Good story.

There is a little elderly man that lives here now after being displaced. He commented that even if he won the lottery he wouldn't return...not until the levies were thoroughly repaired.

As for him having 3 houses...good for him. He won the money fair and square just as the rest of us would love to!!!

May he and his family have all the health and such they truly deserve, just as the rest of us wish for.

This is both a feel-good and a who-gives-a-crap story...yeah, its nice that someone who survived Katrina won. But the guy owned three houses; he didn't lose everything like so many other people did.

What a prick! I suppose now you are going to tell me how out of line I am as you are a survivor too? I hope that you have more sensitivity then that in the real world. How can you sit and say that about one of your own, granted, I dont think he suffered nearly as much as many, but to make the comment of spending the Funds from someone else before his own realy does go to show why people think the south is dumb.
By the way, I was there for all hurricanes of 2005, so lets not open that can of worms either, just go tuck your tale in bewtween your legs and run on home now!

I do believe he also owns a cunstruction company, and while I applaude his winning, I think this story is just a propaganda for the south.
The story would have read so much better had it been won by a family or person who truly needed it, but none the less congrats to the winner!

He really should turn the money in to the US Government and to the people who helped him out. He was given alot of free housing, food and medical at no cost to him. So he should do the right thing. Anyone living in the LA,MS area should not collect the lottery. I think he needs to give back to the people who are real tax payers. Its just like someone on welfare. Them living off of the tax payers and Government. They should not be allowed to play the lottery. If they win it, the government needs to do checks on people like this. And that check should have went to repay back the citizens of the USA since their tax paying dollars went to the people in LA and MS. Well anyway he wont have any good luck with it anyway. I lost alot of my tax money beause of those people in LA, and MS. They were all already poor. Now since the government helped they out , why dont they repay back their nice government.

Don't you just know that for the rest of his life, this poor guy's phone will be ringing off the hook from folks asking for money.

I think with 97 million he can make it so the calls will go to his lawyers office.

But I agree, the family will drive him crazy with thier calls. Cable bill is running high, call cousin powerball winner. Mention 300 dollar cable bill, and his recent 97 million dollar ticket in same breath.

lol.

But you know, I'd love to try my hand at dealing with those issues.

I hope he handles it wisely. Lucky him.

I'm still amazed by the older guy from, Ohio (wasn't it?) that won the 300+ million.

Then he promptly lost most of it. His daughter died or her boyfriend from overdose. He took about 100k to the strip club in suitcase, and was promptly setup and robbed by a stripper. Then his house was robbbed also.

Sad thing is, he was worth a million prior to winning. But he couldn't handle all those new millions.

What idiot takes 100k in case to a strip club.

When I hear folks like him other wealthy athletes getting in trouble at strip clubs, I wonder why they are not more like the smart one's and bring your strip club to your private location.

You got enough money to higher a few girls and do whatever you want, without having to risk facing the troubles you face when you out in public throwing money aroun.d

ok like you would really do that if roles were reversed. Shut up and stop being a sore loser, that is not Christian like. How did you lose "alot" of your tax money? and what "nice" government to you live under?

I say that luck was really shining on them. Hopefully they will help someone else less fortunate than they are, I do wish it had been me who had won but who knows what may be in store for any of us around the corner. Besides if I won I would not want someone to rain on my parade. Congrats lucky person!!!!

Not if he disconnects it! First call anyone should do after being awarded a large sum of money, call an attorney, and then who everlese you wish, then rip the phone cord out of wall so it cant be plugged in by kids to receive those damn annoying calls from family.

After my settlement from being shot six times, I wen through this, and while one feels for the family members, not enough to bail them out of the whole THEY dug for themself. Sorry, I will dies having spent my childrens inherritence, and living the way I always wish! Hell I cant spend it after I am dead, and I sure in hell earned every penny!
