I went to the Chamber to check into leasing or purchasing a building to move my business to from another town a while back. The Chamber was unlocked, computers on, phone ringing with no one there. I could have downloaded anything off their computers or stole the place blind. I waited around two hours for someone to show up. No note was on the door as to where anyone was or when they would return. I had sent emails later. None were answered back. From talking with people I have discovered that the Chamber Director is a former clerk from the Mount Pleasant Daily Tribune. No wonder I had such an unprofessional experience from the Pittsburg Texas Chamber of Commerce. I understand she was a political hire by the Chamber President and some directors, much like other positions hired in Pittsburg area. Well, I went to Mt. Pleasant's Chamber of Commerce and they quickly showed me around. I leased a building and opened up my business. Pittsburg, no wonder your town is dying. You can do fluffy work like the Zombie movie and other activities in town, but the work does NOT bring in revenue to your area merchants. I talked with a number of downtown merchants and they stated they are very disappointed in their Chamber and Main Street Committee. The people on them are just there to be seen and there to promote their business in front of others. The Chamber has had a HUGE membership loss because of this. Ask area merchants and most will tell you they are not members of the Chamber and do not support the Main Street program because of all of the bullies on these committee's that try to ramrod their personal preferences down the throats of Pittsburg business owners. Many have stated they have just told the organizations where they could go and have not heard back from them. Small town politics...you bet. Growth in Pittsburg, NO.

Lynda Stringer the Chamber of Commerce Director resigned this past week. If you read the prior posting, it's no wonder. I think everyone knows that resigned usually means fired in most cases. But lets give it the benefit of the doubt. Sources say she was just not up to the job and had a poor performance record according to most of the area merchants. There is alot of hostility in the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce with many of board members using the Chamber to try and boost their personal business sales instead of boosting the entire town. This does not rest well with the area merchants. The Chamber can't sign up business members to save its life. Many refuse to participate because they feel they are only paying for someone to sit behind a desk and daydream instead of doing a worthwhile job in promoting the city. We will see if he new person does any better. Time will tell and I have a feeling it won't take very long to see. It's another political hire. Nothing like nepotism by the Chamber President and Board. You should stay at Pizza Hut Bob as you are not doing the City of Pittsburg any favors with how "you" have been running the Chamber.

So you think this is a news flash? The chamber of commerce in Pittsburg has been dead the last 10 + years. The only thing new there is the changing of the president and the directors every so often. Businesses have dropped out of the chamber left and right because the chamber does little to build business in Pittsburg. Everyone has to fend for themselves.

I've been looking in the newspapers for a job everyday and there has not been a posting for this position. Aren't they required to post this position for hire? I heard they hired the guy that is runs the Trapper newsletter from a friend of mine. So why do they not hire people with direct experience rather than the good old boy system?

Rest assured that they did not post it in any newspaper or anywhere else. That's not the way it works in Pittsburg. You get hired into positions based on who you know or whom you are related to, not what you know. That's why the last couple of people washed out so quickly. You can't do a job when you don't know what to do and you do not have any leadership backing you. The "leadership" is just there to get their picture in the paper, nothing else.

You and your parents sit back and let all this happen. Cheap labor or no labor was the moto, I will not mention any names who caused this I think you already know. I heard Pittsburg Motor went out of business. I was so happy to hear that, they have RAPED people for years. Best of luck to yall, but I think you may have better luck if you moved. You should have put up a fight long before now.

Many business owners are not members of the chamber and this is exactly why. They depend upon their work for their profitability and not the fluff work done by the chamber. The last chamber director, lynda stringer, was good at not being at the chamber and looking busy, but not actually producing any meaningful results (fluffy bs work). I've asked a few business owners about this the past year and they all stated that they were not giving their money to an unqualified individual to pay their salary for sitting behind a desk and doing little to nothing for their business. The business I work at refused to join the chamber and told her to her face why. They would rather keep the money and use it to market themselves as they see fit. Other business owners that were members have dropped out for the same reasons. The people on the boards are there just trying to look like they are doing a community service. Most just want their pictures in the paper when they get a check from a business, but that has grinded to a halt. The only good thing that happened in Pittsburg recently was a good turnout for Chickfest, but that was not really due to the chamber and its director. A woman that has a petting zoo, inflatables, etc. went to the chamber to help build up Chickfest because she felt the chamber director did not know up from down and a business owner in town allowed free booth set up in their parking lot. This is what really happened at chickfest and caused it to be so large. Other than this, what did the last chamber director do for meaningful results (dollars in the town merchants pockets?) Zip! You have to blame the chamber director as well as the President and board that hired her. I work in Pittsburg, but live in Mount Pleasant and their chamber is a world away from Pittsburg.

Sue I know all about the LOOK BUSY dealing. That will work for awhile, sooner or later it will catch up with you as it has done in this case. If you can keep the middle man out of your business you make more money.

I spoke with the lady that did the petting zoo, bounce houses and everything else. She thought that the chamber director was an idiot and that after speaking with her she knew so. So, she decided to volunteer to do all of this own her own. But, she was a bit irritated when the chamber director and chamber tried to claim credit for everything in the newspaper, their website and on facebook. She's so successful at it that she resigned. HA, LOL, I know that most of the town is GLAD SHE IS GONE!!!!!

I read she went to work at the hospital in Mount Pleasant. Glad to say Good Bye. In case you all didnt notice she was always trying to promote Mount Pleasant over Pittsburg at the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce. The idiots in charge there did not pay attention to what she was doing, but the public noticed. Mount Pleasant got a laugh as she was promoting them on our nickel. Of course she thanked Bob Sehon profusely in the newspaper. Of course, he was the one that gave her the job in the first place. I'm sure as they said above her clerical skills at the Mount Pleasant newspaper helped her to get the job at the chamber, NOT. I'm sure Bob helped her again with the hospital. I just hope they find out sooner than later that she's not a good people person nor good at fund raising. The paper said she was going to be working at the foundation of the hospital so that is fund raising. Ha, laugh is on the hospital and Mount Pleasant and it is on their nickel now.

Boy your right about this and this is a nonprofit organization?????? I hope all of the merchants in the town drop out of the chamber just because of the crap that has been pulled in this and so many other matters over the years.

I wonder whom you could complain about this to? I know the City of Pittsburg and the Chamber have always been at odds with each other. One cannot get along with the other. I wonder if this is why?

Bob Sehon is the President of the chamber according to the chamber website. He owns the Pizza Inn in Pittsburg on highway 271. I doubt it would do any good. He is an egotistical a __. I'm glad the last chamber director is gone. She didn't know how to do anything other than to draw a paycheck. I hope the hospital in mount pleasant figures this out sooner than later. The CEO there is a workaholic so he will discover her fluff quickly.
