Pilgrim's Pride town stays calm despite bankruptcy

Dec 6, 2008 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: KRISTV.COM Corpus Christi

Chicken tycoon Bo Pilgrim drives a few miles down U.S. Hwy. 271 some Saturday mornings, buys a $3.99 oatmeal breakfast at Herschel's Restaurant and hands out $20 bills along with a "Jesus Saves" pamphlet.

One must understand people in Texas think of themselves only. I know I was born and raised there. About 25 miles from Pittsburg and many relatives still live there. I agree he should help the farms he let go, but that would be like asking a wild bob cat for some tame sex. I know the people of the once great state of Texas.

Haven't heard that he let any farms go....last thing I heard was that the contract growers were supplying all the chickens, and the houses that were owned by Pilgrim's were shut down. This info came from my cousin, who works for Pilgrim's.

Most of us Texas natives are nice folks that don't just "think about ourselves". We are dedicated to our families and friends, but we don't think much of "know-it-all outsiders" from up North.

With all respect some Texas natives are nice folks. I think I am one of them, although yall don't think much of the know-it-all outsiders form up north. There are some nice folks up here in New England and they aren't know it all either. They know the civil war is over unlike many of the south.
The woried farms is right, while Bo is passing out $20 bills at the cafe where he eats at he should be giving it to the farmers. Although he passed out $100 bills to members of congress in Austin back in the early 90's if I make no mistake. As I stated I was born and raised in east Texas and know yall like the back of my hand, I will be back home soon with some R.I. reds.

Not branding all of them as know-it-alls, just the couple that I have had the displeasure to work with.....have met others that were really nice folks. Lotta Texans here I don't care much for either, LOL.
I remember hearing about Bo passing out 100's to the legislature, too. This was while he was trying to get permits to dump waste water underground....if my memory serves me correctly.

Are you going to be selling the RI Reds?
Post up on here if you are, would like to have a few of them.

I would be getting into trouble if I sell any pure R.I. reds. The farm here ask you to sign a legal paper stating you will not breed these fowls to nothing but a pure R.I. breed. I will check with the farm, the monument of R.I. is the R.I. red they are proud of this chicken.
One must say yall let Bo and others stick it to you and one must say you done it to yourself. Andthank you I was right about the $100 bill thing now I know my mine is still ok. Just think of the jobs that would be in the area if he and others didn't hire illegals for cheap labor. Americans will work, but they want to get paid also.

They have the bussiness skills, that is to keep the little man down. They have done a good job of that. There are many other co., in Texas like Bo, I have worked for some of them. Woried farmer I may have taken a licking but I kept ticking like a timex. One must understand those people care for themselves only which is sad. But that is the N.E.Texas way which is sader.

I can just hear Ross Periot, saying, I told you so. Thanks to NAFTA, and a greedy corrupt integrator, El Dorado is loosing more and more people, and not just El Dorado, but so many citys in this nation. Yet if El Dorado will be patient, we will get good businesses back in here, that will not devastate the community like Pilgrims Pride did. They have not changed their ways, and until they get rid of the current leadership, and replace them with people of integrity, then El Dorado does not need this tyrant as part of our community.

Oh boy what a mess Pilgrim's Pride has created. Growers need to bombard the USDA and the Dept. of Justice with their comments about the abusive tactics of the major integrators and their "sharecropper" contracts.http://www.farmaid.o rg/site/c.qlI5IhNVJsE/b.4 ...

All the poultry farmers need to go to the farmaid.org site, and read the petition, add comments about your own problems with the integrators, and submit it. They will send it to the right places. Or, keep silent, and enslaved.
