Another thing, a lot of the farmers are older. Not old, just older. No one hires an "older" worker. They weren't too old to take care of the farm, but too old for anyone to hire. Some of them may not be in the best of health. They could tend to the chickens, but who wants to hire them. And you are right, most of the ones I know are living on family land that has been in the family for generations. It will kill some of these to lose this land. All because of "LIES".

Another Old Farmer: What you say is true, but many people don't give a damn. They will lie steal whatever it takes to make a dollar. Very few people know what it is to make an honest living anymore and help each other out. They want all the squrriels coming on there side of the tree. The old chicken farmers have something called knowledge. If the youngesters hear them they will learn, if not they may have a price to pay.

The very fact that poultry farmers are having to explain the situation they are facing to those not involved in the poultry business is a clear indication of the need for more public awareness. Although I did not inherit family land, I worked 25 years at an hourly job and used all my savings in order to purchase land. After getting the land I built chicken houses. I also had to continue working the hourly job while raising chickens until the houses were paid off. There just wasn't enough money left over after paying the chicken house payments, utilities, insurance, and ect.. to substain a modestly comfortable living. And it wasn't just me working on the poultry farm, it was my entire family. I can say without a doubt that poultry farmers have made more sacrifices than anyone involved in this industry. Weekend? What is that? This job requires you to be on duty 24 hours a day seven days a week. The scarifices made by the farmers aren't just financial. And my story isn't unique but rather common amony farmers. They have their entire life wraped up in their farms. It is an injustice to the farmers and workers of America that make these sacrifices to be simply thrown to the side in order for these integrators to increase their profit margin. You can bet that NONE of the upper management at Pilgrim's Pride lost a farm, their land, were evicited from their home, or even lost any sleep over the disaster they orchestrated. And things aren't any better now that JBS has acquired 64% of Pilgrim's Pride. While utilities and operating expenses have increased the average pay per pound paid to the farmer has declined. These integrators have paid out hundreds of millions of dollars to pay lawyers, influence legislation, support lobbyists, skirt imigration laws, and pay fines for breaking labor laws and environmental laws. It's ironic that the farmers have made the money for these poultry integrators which has enabled them to gain their wealth. And they use their wealth in order to do whatever it takes to remain in total contol. I guess one could say, it's "just business". All growers should call their elected officials and hound them about these new proposals being considered to be added to the Farm Bill. This industry needs to be cleaned up for the good of the farmers, workers, and the good of America.

Still this? What is up with still this Mark. If you have to ask, are we still fighting for our lives, you bet we are. We are fighting daily to keep the bankers at bay, to keep them from forclosing on our farms, and homes. We are fighting to keep a roof over our families heads, to put food in their mouths, to pay car notes. Still this? Mark there has not been a day in the past year and a half, that we have not wondered when and if we would get a forclosure notice. There has not been a day that at least five different creditors have not called, and grilled us, only to repeat 3 days later. I have to erase about 10 calls a day on average. What did we do to deserve this? We did our job, under pressures that the majority of people have no concept of, being subjected to economic blackmail on a constant basis, yet we endured. We refuse to pay the price for the corporate managements greed, and stupid decisions. Had they not been such corporate raiders, they would not have overextended, and the feed prices would not have had the effect they had. Pilgrims Prides' executives greed put us in this situation, and their continued greed, drove home the utter devastation that they have served upon us and our communities. We will fight to see that things are made right by those who created the problems,Pilgrims Pride, and to see that they are never allowed to do such things to people again.

That would be funny, if I didn't know what you were loosing or about to loose. Why did Wayne Farms close down. Is the truth known, or are they hiding the truth as Pilgrims Pride has done. Do some digging, get to the truth. If Wayne Farms is anything like Pilgrims, then you can bet you do not have the truth.

Once again, this post illustrates the very need to educate the public on the plight of the poultry farmer. "Bubba's" post was written by an unknowlegable, uninformed person that has no idea of the nature of the poultry business. A farmer does not just simply "go somewhere else for work". With millions of dollars invested on his farm he is completely at the mercy of these billion dollar corporatons. These corporations operate like dictators holding farmers in virtual bondage. From "Bubba's" comment all I could sumise is that he never has been involved in poultry farming and therefore doesn't have a clue.

I know there are a lot of sour grapes on here from the farmers. The farmers definitely got a raw deal, but there are many that were in the corporate offices that were working folks just like them. They are out in the cold now too. Don't be so quick to judge a building full of people. If you want to blame a few, I can understand it, but don't blame everyone in that building. Many are left to try to sell their homes and uproot their families and move just like the farmers. Those families are in the same shape as the farmers. Are there any Christians on here? wow, some of the tones used by people aren't very christ-like. Just an observation
I AM NOT familiar with your particular situation down there but this is happening all over America and in other countries too. I just wanted to let you know that I am going to keep you all in my prayers as I do in general everyday. I know there are many Christians that if they can't do anything directly they are keeping you in their prayers too and prayers can be a powerful thing! Unfortunately my family is on food stamps like most of the people in my community and are going to food banks that once were brimming with help but with the economic situation we are in ( I won't name names but I think we are all becoming aware that the people running our country right now don't have a clue as to how to fix it!)there just isn't enough extra to be donated. Be that as it may, people are just plain scared and scared people say things they might not ordinarily say so we have to forgive them realizing that a lot of us are a breath away from saying some of those very same things if we get pushed much farther. We may have to go to the food bank ourselves this summer as my husband has not had a job in almost 3 years and we have nothing left. Were it not for God and my social security disability (which is not enough for one person to exist on let alone two)we would be homeless too. So we have to give it up to God to get us thru. He always has and always will so take heart- this too shall pass! God Bless You All!

If you have fears that things could get worse, let me cut right through to the punch, I believe things will get far worse. If you are a Christian, then you faith is not in this world, but in the next life. You do understand that the Social Security System is bankrupt, only surviving with unstainable borrowed money. I was on disability, but could not provide for my family, so even though I work in mind shattering pain every day, I found a job, and work. It's not a job I ideally see myself doing, but it provides more than disability. The reason I say things will get worse, is that for the leadership that we now find ourselves under to be able to achomplish their agenda, they have to drive the nation into the dirt, and make everyone think our current system has failed us. I believe the current administration desires a new system of government, and are intent on having it. They have and are putting in place, plans to relocate people along rail systems in buildings that they are currently planning to build that would relocate the majority of people into controlled housing situations, and forcing all citizens onto a central controlled food grid. They have already begun this process, and have quietly passed new laws, and are in the process of passing new laws that restrict more and more, a persons ability to produce their own food. Think I'm crazy, the information is out their, on the internet, you just have to know how to find it. So many people in this country have become lemmings, or sheep, and let others think for them, ascribing to the concept of being blisfully ignorant. As this post is not in the nature of this current blog, I apologize, and will not continue this thread, I just wanted to answer the above post. It is greed, and power that drives many peoples actions, including that I belive of Bo Pilgrims, and Many of his managers. Such things as greed and power drive most if not all corporations, and politicians, and individuals. While in each of these entities their are good honest people, who go along to get along, as long as good people turn a blind eye to the evil acts of others, then this road to the ending of our country will be paved with inaction, complacency, and denial. It takes courage to stand up for what is right, but their are still enough of us adults out their who still remember what right from wrong truly is. I know that currently their is and has been efforts to cloud up the issue of right from wrong, and that many of our youth and young adults no longer have a clear understanding of such concepts, but their is still hope for our country, but it will take people shaking off their complacency, their fear, their slumber, and accept the fact that many have become lazy, and self-absorbed, willing even desiring to be fed, instead of working to feed themsleves. I believe that many are working to create a two class system, the haves, and the have nots. Those who will control, and those who will be controlled. JBS buying out Pilgrims Pride is just another step in that direction. Our current food supply is now dangeriously in the hands of a few agri-giants. Wake up and begin to work to stop this, or be content to be enslaved.

Wow that is a lot to take in, but I would bet that what you are speaking of is U.N. Agenda 21. The one world governments plan to rule the world. They already have agencys in most of the major cities of this nation, who give money to city governments and buy their loyality. This however as you know should be on another thread. But I can see how it could all tie together.

Of course this all ties in to what is currently happening in the poultry industry. Take a good hard look at what has transpired in the last decade with the animal protein market. All the animal protein market; i.e, poultry, beef, and pork is now being controlled by only FIVE major global agricultural conglomerates. Scary ain't it!!

JBS is currently looking to gobble up as many other complexes as possible. They have already started, this is only the beginning for them, and their take over of the food production in the United States. They have the resources, they have the blessing of one who calls himself the leader of the free world, whose true intent, I believe is the utter destruction of our nation, in order to remake it in a image more suitable to himself, and his comrads. Why are so many Americans so blinded, it is fairly clear as to their true intentions. Do that many Americans really believe that the free ride that they are promising is really going to happen? Enslavement is the only thing that is coming.

Try getting your head out of the sand Doc Holiday. Only an idiot cannot see through the United Nationa Agenda 21, and its local sub groups I.C.l.E.I. Their green agenda, their national map of intended relocation of American citizens, along proposed housing complexes, next to proposed high speed rails, etc. Sustainable resources is code word for, we are prepairing to rule your lives with an iron fist. Think I am nuts, I think you are nuts. But what I am saying can be proven, all anyone needs do is open their eyes, and look around a bit. Let your fingers do a little googling, the information is plainly their for all to know, If they have the courage to look. Enough of this, this is not on topic. It is all together another thread topic. Just don't forget, you were warned.
