My mechanic did some work on my car yesterday and wouldn't take any money for it. I bought a couple of large pizzas for him and the others in the shop to be delivered today at lunch. But then... I'm not in a budget crisis.

All the cops need is just a friggin donuts and coffee.

I was involved in a disaster response before during the aftermath of the Northridge earthquake. I bought my own lunch in the Valley as we fan out every building to inspect.

Besides, the memorial is not a disaster event. They just overkill the cops presence in the area.

How many employers do you know who feed their employees while those employees are working?
It's not like they can just walk over to the local McDonalds or Subway and buy lunch. And if there are any incidents during the event that restricts there ability to buy lunch as well.

I think providing lunch is OK and is part of the job. I bet you the $12-$13 is a relatively small cost anyway. What should also be part of this is the lunch provider should be part of a periodic bidding process so the city is reasonably assured of value.

The Jackson's wanted this huge event, I mean circus, and I think they should foot the bill. I know Jacko is as big as Elvis but Elvis did not have little boys sleeping in his bed. The tax payers should not be held responsible for paying.

What a joke.....the guy was a child molester. The law out there for that crap, the same kind that they arrest. The Jackson family planned this event to honor their disturbed son. They along with AEG need to pay for this circus. How shameful of the family to make it like their pervert was such a good man. He molested children for goodness sake. How would you parents feel about him if it was your child he molested? Better yet, how would you coppers feel if it was your child he molested and you are out there getting paid for this event and your child a victem with emotional problems for the rest of their life? Unbelievable

Hey Angelenos, would you like to call a police officer to help you out and then find out that they stopped to eat rather than helping you?
I know an employer that all of you are very grateful when they feed their employees. It's called the LAFD. When they are fighting fires for all of us, we appreciate that they are fed by others so they won't leave the fire lines and find their own eateries.
YES, AEG, The Jackson Family, and anyone who stands to make a buck off of the recording of the service should foot the bills.
Although the place where the lunches were made is not in the city of Los Angeles, it is in an area where firefighting has been going on for generations and they know their business of feeding those who help our communities.
YES, if you are a Michael Jackson fan you probably should sack up and donate to helping defray the costs the city put out helping the service be the best it was.
Come on! There is a difference between fighting fires and just standing around. Those clowns were making close to $100 an hour. I'm sure that food places close by would have been glad to deliver and the business would have been spread around. You guys are a joke and need to get off you fat a.ses along with the city leaders, enough is enough!

Shouldn't someone sign off on these big ticket items? Shouldn't there be a purchase order? How can one person make decisions for that large sums of money? I run an accounting dept for a large firm, if I spend $ like that without approval from my superior, I would have been fired right away!

Wasteful!

WE want emergency workers to get healthy meals that won't spoil. The problem here is that the whole Jackon event was done at taxpayer expense. Even the Laker celebration was paid for by private funds. The Jackson event had so many rich people in that audience. How about some cash to go along with those profits, tears, and tributes?

<quoted text> Sounds like a great deal for a quality box with a very tall order on very short notice, and each box is two servings. You definitely don't want to take any chances buying cheap food. Besides this was a special event and they deserve better quality. Jensens is top notch and you could never get a local store to be able to do this on such short notice.
This was not a special event. it was a misuse of public funds for a glorified CHILD ABUSER and John Q. should not foot the bill.

Michael Jackson was a gentle soul who was never convicted in a court of law of harming children.

However, he was convicted in the court of public opinion, and ended up dying in a prison of his own making.

To say that the memorial was unreasonable because of his alleged crimes goes against the foundation of our nation's justice system, where we are innocent until proven guilty. That 1.6 million people requested tickets to the memorial, and 32 million people watched, is evidence enough that the memorial and the support staff was warranted.

AEG has already kicked in significant funds to defray the cost.

Just enjoy his music and dancing!

The promoters of Michael's British concert wanted this big event, not the Jacksons. Those promoters are the ones making money on it.

You are a stupid, mindless azhle who believes the rantings of a "news" organiztion that specializes in putting down people. Michael was found innocent of everything except trying to help out greedy people.

I'm not surprised about the cost, and do believe that the police should get box lunches for this type of duty. What does surprise me is that the City of LA does not use a local vendor for this service. Plenty of local catering companies would have liked this job.

We recently had to pay for a motorcycle procession for the burial of my mother and gladly paid for a reception for the guests. Why doesn't the Jackson family have to pay for their expenses? Why is the city paying for this?
