Yea I know a lot of people using 22 magnums. Last week I watched a red cherokee from my treestand shot from their vehicle. They stops and shot what I thought was a doe, then after they shot an killed it they just pulled out and left it laying. At dark I got out my stand and went to checl the deer and it was a button buck. Terrible just to shoot to kill and leave. I have always had a lot if luck in december in wyoming co. Unlike in VA. Usuallu the rut is later there. Usually still a lil rutn activity going at begening of dec, thanks man for advice. Will try and find where are some acorns left for next week.

What has the Wyoming County resident, who claims there are not big bucks in Wyoming Co., been smoking. The three biggest bows kills in West Virginia came from Wyoming County: Hill's buck at 212, Cooper's buck at 206, and McKinney's buck at 204. Now five or six years ago, WV legislators passed new hunting regulations that prohibited hunters from transporting deer killed in any of the four archery-only counties, to adjacent counties, prior to the deer being checked-in. Previous regulations had allowed all hunters to check their deer in the county the deer was taken, or any adjacent county, before deer were transported beyond the borders of counties adjacent to the county the prize was killed. The law was passed explicitly to stop the well-known practice of poachers killing deer with firearms in an archery-only county, but checking their prize as a gun-kill in an adjoining county which held a firearms Whitetail season. Poachers in Wyoming County had most often checked their prize in Raleigh County, while McDowell poachers most often used Mercer County to execute their poaching ploy. Although the new law has helped considerably, the new regulation did not end the rotate-the-deer into the next county ploy! Now if the DNR gets wind of this fellow that all the smack is about, he is probably toast, because of all of those little game cameras that hunters continuously run. If by chance that fellow displayed an illegal deer on this website, the DNR can subpoena the website for records. Hey, presently a man in Gilbert is on the verge of going to the “Big House,” and it all stems from him displaying a trophy picture on Gilberts Topix site in November of 2008. Of course the Gilbert buck is much bigger than West Virginia’s present record, and about 70 inches bigger than the Rock Crusher Buck. But as for all the smack the baiters are talking, well P& Y officials do not consider baiting fair chase. In order for a trophy to be entered into the Official P&Y Record Book, a hunter must pay a fee, and sign a sworn affidavit stating the deer was taken by fair chase. Of course any baiter can lie and sign the Fair Chase Affidavit, and get his monster buck into the official book, but unless a baiter lies, he is only eligible to get recorded in West Virginia’s record book, not P& Ys book where there is a $50.00 fee.

it is illegal to hunt over a feeder or baited area for deer,I use too hunt up the Rock crusher hollow many yrs ago and me a close friend of mine alone with Randell A.hunted for a monster deer there for 2 yrs str8 and me and my hunting buddy was heading out one saturday morning when we went into the 7-11 in Oceana and the city cop was in there which I knew very wee and he ask where we were heading too ,we told him ,he knew the buck we were hunting for,he laughed and said if u going after the big buck hes dead,I ask who killed him ,he said that a dude from Lynco had poched him that night, was caught coming through town with it in the back of his truck, the rack stuck above the bed,it was a 21 point buck with a 24 inch spread, now this was back in the late 80s,I got so sick at my stomach that I didnt bowhunt again that yr,he had shot it with a 22 mag, when the cop had pulled him over it had not been checked in or a tag filled out he told the guy that he would call the gamewarden and have him to come and check it for him the deer was still warm and it was around 2 am,well the GW came out checked the body temp and it was about 2 hrs old, they made the guy pay for replacing the deer and fined him big time plus took his lic. for 5 yrs, were I live now is in Mingo co and we have some monsters here too but its hard on the ones of us who hunt fair ,I hope they bust everyone who kills deer illegal and hunts over bait, thats not hunting, like the big deer I was talking about if someone would have killed it fair and evebn if it was thier first time hunting the area all I can say is congrads ,it was your lucky day

Good story on a poacher getting caught. This year a law went into affect that has a lot stiffer fine for shooting trophy bucks then in the past. The bigger the buck the bigger the fine up to like 2,500 before a replacement deer was like 200 dollars.

It is legal to hunt over bait in WV. Weather it is ethical or not is up to the hunter I guess.

He doesn't know HOW to kill or hunt legally, that dude ALWAYS does his so called hunting illegal and everybody knows it. If I didn't kill it the legal way, then I be damned if I'd go around braggin about it, as he does!! He hunts right next to the damn park or hell who knows, probably even on it!! Anybody could kill one that big also, if they lived next to the park and saw the deer everyday of ones life. It's easy to set bait out, ride a 4-wheeler, and use a gun, OOOHHHEEEE, he's a big time hunter, he poached him a deer illegal, NOT hunted the way most men do, but POACHED!!!!

The laws in WV don't mean anything to Wyoming County, unless it is to benefit a big wig in this county..LOL. If the poacher is in the little buddy system at Pineville, a family, or close friend of that buddy system, then nothing will be done and everybody in this county knows this!!
