This lying school board acted like George Thompson wouldn't fight to get prayer back . Thompson did exactly what he was advised to.do just like UT is having to do. Brock told us at church she blamed Thompson that was stupid ! George wanted prayer ! What happened was beyond his control and he protected the school systems money. Now we got higher tax . They are helping their self. And thats all.Thompson took care Bell County better than people will ever realize .

Prayer has no place in a government institution. Especially schools. Separation of church and state is a tremendously valuable concept. Religious and moral principles should be kept at home and in places of worship.
My kid's school sneaks it in here and there. I don't throw a fit, even though I'm Buddhist. But the blatant disregard for non Christian beliefs in this little town is austounding and rampant. I can understand why these people called Bell County out on this one.
Imagine being a Christian in a heavily Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, or Shinto locale. Now, imagine walking down a street. A stranger approaches you and asks if you attend worship. Not church, but their sort of worship. What do you say? Do you lie? This hypothetical situation is my daily existence here. I say no, and am invariably proselytized by my interrogator. In the middle of the street. Attempt to grasp how that would make you feel after years. It's abusive.
The worst part of all of this, is most Bible Belt Christian's failure to adhere to the tenets set by their own doctrine. Tolerance, love, forgiveness, honesty, charity, fidelity, austerity. This debate has NOTHING to do with the founding rules of your faith. It is merely about controlling the foundering structure of this town. Public Prayer is no longer helpful. What is needed is open and honest dialogue between all local religious and political groups. WE WILL NOT SURVIVE IF THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN!!
Case in point:Hands Across Bell County.

One or two students imposed their views on all. Now the defenders of this tyranny can scream 1st Amendment all day but in reality one or two students took away the rights of a vast majority of their fellow students and FORCED conformity to their views.
And from reading the Federalists Papers this is hardly what the founders had in mind when they wrote the 1st Amendment.
Can anyone say tyranny of the minority?
